The Syrian Future Movement is following with great interest the signing of the cooperation agreement between the Syrian Postal Corporation and Saudi Post on Thursday, August 26, 2026, in Damascus, aimed at strengthening joint cooperation and laying the necessary foundations for the growth of e-commerce and the development of postal services in both countries.
The Syrian Future Movement appreciates this step, which comes within the framework of strengthening bilateral relations with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and embodies the shared vision for broader economic integration. It views this agreement, signed by Syrian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdul Salam Heikal and Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistics Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, as a genuine opportunity to modernize the Syrian postal sector and benefit from advanced Saudi expertise, thus contributing to supporting digital transformation and improving services provided to citizens.
However, the Syrian Future Movement emphasizes that the success of this agreement depends on the speed and effectiveness of its implementation and the ability of the relevant institutions to translate its provisions into tangible projects that benefit the national economy and the Syrian citizen.
The Syrian Future Movement notes that this agreement carries three key economic implications:
First: Boosting e-commerce. The agreement focuses on establishing the necessary foundations for e-commerce growth and developing postal services that complement the digital transformation. We see this as a crucial step to keep pace with global shifts in the trade sector and provide a favorable environment for e-commerce, especially given the growing demand for digital services.
Second: Modernizing the Syrian postal sector and leveraging Saudi expertise to modernize the Syrian Postal Corporation and expand its service and development role. We believe that the postal sector in Syria is in dire need of rehabilitation and development, particularly in the areas of modern technologies, logistics, and supply chain management, to meet international standards.
Third: Continuing the momentum of Saudi-Syrian economic cooperation. We observe that this agreement is part of a series of joint economic initiatives, including the establishment of a joint Saudi-Syrian bank, port development and trade facilitation, and major strategic projects in aviation, water, communications, and infrastructure. This momentum indicates the seriousness of economic cooperation between the two countries and reflects both sides’ understanding of the importance of economic integration in achieving sustainable development.
Based on its economic and national responsibility, the Syrian Future Movement recommends the following:
- Expediting the development of detailed implementation plans to translate the agreement’s provisions into tangible projects, with clear timelines and measurable performance indicators, to ensure the achievement of the desired goals in the shortest possible time.
- Investing in digital infrastructure in conjunction with developing postal services, expanding high-speed internet access, and developing electronic payment platforms to create an integrated environment for e-commerce.
- Building national capacities and training personnel by utilizing the exchange programs and visits stipulated in the agreement to qualify Syrian personnel in the fields of modern postal services, e-commerce, and logistics.
- Enhancing transparency and monitoring by establishing oversight mechanisms and conducting periodic follow-up on the agreement’s implementation, and announcing progress regularly to ensure transparency and strengthen trust between institutions and citizens.
The Syrian Future Movement values this agreement, which strengthens economic cooperation between Syria and Saudi Arabia and opens new horizons for developing the postal sector and e-commerce. We reiterate that the success of this step depends on serious implementation, investment in personnel and infrastructure, and a commitment to transparency and follow-up.
The Syrian Future Movement affirms that digital transformation and the development of postal services are two fundamental pillars for building a strong and sustainable national economy, capable of integrating into the global economy and attracting investments.
For its part, the Syrian Future Movement will remain a supporter of all that strengthens economic cooperation and digital transformation, a critic of all that hinders development, and a monitor of all that is accomplished on the ground, striving for a new, strong, and prosperous Syria.
