The Syrian Future Movement is closely following the decision issued by the Syrian Minister of Economy and Industry, Nidal al-Shaar, on Thursday, August 27, 2026, to form the first founding board of directors for the Syrian Exporters Council, pursuant to Decision No. 140 of 2026. This formation complements Decision No. 73, issued on April 13, 2026, which established the Syrian Exporters Council as a comprehensive professional framework concerned with exporters’ affairs, operating under the supervision of the Ministry of Economy and Industry and in coordination with the Local Production and Exports Support and Development Authority.
The Syrian Future Movement welcomes this institutional step, which embodies the government’s commitment to regulating the export sector and developing the operating environment for Syrian exporters, and contributes to realizing the national vision for rebuilding the Syrian economy on the foundations of production and export.
We see the formation of this council, which includes a select group of sectoral experts, as a genuine opportunity to unify the efforts of exporters, address the challenges they face, and offer practical proposals for developing trade policies, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of Syrian products in foreign markets.
The Syrian Future Movement believes that the success of this council hinges on the seriousness of its work, the effectiveness of its coordination with government entities, and its ability to translate its plans into tangible results. This will contribute to achieving the desired objectives for which it was established, foremost among them increasing and diversifying national exports. The movement points out that one of the council’s most important tasks is organizing and classifying Syrian exporters sectorally. This will contribute to creating a clear picture of Syria’s export capabilities and identifying the strengths and weaknesses of each sector. The movement views this classification as a necessary step for planning export policies scientifically and systematically, moving away from the haphazard approach that prevailed in the past.
The Syrian Future Movement also appreciates the decision’s requirement that the council submit periodic reports to the Ministry of Economy and Industry. These reports should include work plans and achievements, identify obstacles facing the Syrian export sector, and propose solutions to overcome them.
We see this mechanism as an effective channel of communication between exporters and decision-makers, contributing to removing the obstacles that have long hindered the growth of Syrian exports, especially given the logistical and financial challenges the sector faces.
It is essential to emphasize that the Council’s responsibilities also include contributing to the development of strategic export plans, promoting Syrian products in foreign markets, proposing participation in trade fairs and missions, and building databases of exporters and markets.
We consider these activities fundamental tools for enhancing the presence of Syrian products in global markets, increasing their export share, and diversifying the target market base, thereby reducing reliance on traditional markets and mitigating economic fluctuations.
Based on its economic and national responsibility, the Syrian Future Movement recommends the following:
- Expediting the completion of the Council’s foundational tasks, primarily the preparation of internal, financial, and accounting regulations within the 90-day timeframe, to establish clear and organized operational frameworks that ensure the Council’s continuity and effectiveness.
- Strengthening coordination between the Council and the Local Production and Exports Support and Development Authority to ensure integrated efforts, avoid duplication of work, and maximize the benefits of the Authority’s expertise in supporting exporters and developing exports.
- Engaging the private sector and exporters in strategic planning through consultative mechanisms that allow exporters to participate in shaping export policies ensures these policies are feasible and aligned with actual market needs.
- Working to remove fundamental obstacles facing exports, such as streamlining customs procedures, developing logistics services, improving the financing environment, and securing the energy needed for production, will enhance the competitiveness of Syrian products and encourage increased exports.
The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes that export development is a cornerstone of economic recovery, and that the success of the Exporters Council depends on its serious work, effective coordination with government entities, and its ability to translate its plans into tangible results that benefit the national economy and the Syrian citizen.
The Syrian Future Movement affirms that the next phase requires close cooperation between the public and private sectors to remove all obstacles hindering Syrian exports and to enable local products to access global markets. The Movement will remain a supporter of all that strengthens the national economy and supports exports, a critic of all that impedes development, and a monitor of all that is accomplished on the ground, striving for a new, strong, and prosperous Syria.
