Many Arab countries and communities around the world celebrate Father’s Day on June 21st each year, honoring and celebrating fathers’ contributions and acknowledging their pivotal role in protecting the family unit and consolidating social stability.
In 2026, this occasion takes on an exceptional national and humanitarian dimension in Syria, coinciding with the throes of a promising transitional phase. It highlights the epic resilience of the Syrian father who struggled under the harshest conditions to preserve his family’s dignity and protect it from ruin.
The Syrian Future Movement believes that the Syrian father has borne burdens beyond human capacity throughout the years of war and displacement. He has been the steadfast protector of his family in displacement camps and refugee shelters, and despite the bitterness of deprivation and loss of livelihood, he has been the safety valve that prevented the collapse of the Syrian moral and social fabric.
The Syrian Future Movement sees great importance in the demographic and social indicators issued in mid-2026, which point to sharp changes in the structure of the Syrian family. International reports indicate that approximately 28% of Syrians suffer from various disabilities and injuries, while recent local surveys show that nearly 8.8% of Syrian families include at least one child with special needs, almost a third of whom (28.3%) lack access to basic rehabilitation and health services.
We believe that these figures place a double health and economic burden on heads of households, necessitating organized national and humanitarian intervention to integrate and care for them.
The Syrian Future Movement views with concern the repercussions of the current economic gap on heads of households. Humanitarian Response Reports for 2026 confirm that Syrian heads of households face the challenge of securing a minimum standard of living amidst global inflation and the delays in local production projects. This makes providing decent job opportunities and protecting the purchasing power of Syrian fathers a fundamental pillar for strengthening social security during the transitional phase.
The Syrian Future Movement believes that true stability in the “Syria of the future” begins with the psychological and financial stability of the head of the household. Reconstruction and early recovery efforts will not bear fruit unless government policies directly support fathers and empower them to lead their families toward a dignified life, education, and productivity, and equip them to be genuine partners in development.
The Syrian Future Movement sees this day as an occasion to pay tribute, filled with gratitude and loyalty, to the souls of the martyred fathers who gave their lives defending the dignity and future of their children, and to the fathers forcibly disappeared in prisons and detention centers. It affirms that their struggle will not be in vain and that their cause will remain alive until comprehensive justice is achieved.
The Syrian Future Movement recommends the following:
- Launching the “Social Safety Net Program for the Head of Household”: Calling for the establishment of a national safety net that provides direct financial and health support to fathers with special needs and those injured in the war, to ensure their continued dignified support of their families.
- Promoting microloans for heads of households: Encouraging emerging financial institutions in the transitional phase to provide interest-free, low-interest loans to returning and resident parents, enabling them to launch their small professional, agricultural, and industrial projects.
- Developing professional psychosocial support programs: Guiding civil society organizations to design specialized psychosocial support clinics and centers to help parents overcome the trauma of war and the pressures of displacement and refuge, thereby positively impacting the mental health of Syrian families and children.
