International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers

The Syrian Future Movement believes that the International Day of UN Peacekeepers, observed annually on May 29th, is a global milestone for upholding the values of justice, preserving human dignity, and protecting civilians in conflict zones—values our people aspire to implement in their homeland after years of suffering and tragedy.

The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes that the significance of this occasion underscores the urgent need to establish the foundations of stability. The Blue Helmets serve as a temporary safety valve for nations undergoing critical transitions, recalling the UN slogan that focuses on building sustainable peace and empowering societies to emerge from the cycle of violence into an era of development and democracy.

The Syrian Future Movement cites official UN statistics indicating that more than 70,000 peacekeepers from 120 countries are currently deployed in 11 missions worldwide. This force has sacrificed over 4,200 lives throughout its history in the service of protecting civilians, highlighting the immense human cost of ending conflicts and achieving stability.

The Syrian Future Movement, with a high sense of national responsibility, acknowledges the exceptional circumstances of the Syrian transitional phase. It considers political and security stability an essential prerequisite for reconstruction and the return of millions of refugees and internally displaced persons to their homes. The Movement emphasizes that the concept of peacekeeping must be accompanied by the achievement of transitional justice and the accountability of those responsible for the bloodshed in Syria.

The Syrian Future Movement adopts a confident vision for the future, based on the premise that sustainable “civil peace” in Syria cannot be permanently imported from abroad. Rather, it must be forged by Syrian hands through the establishment of a unified, professional national army and security institutions subject to the rule of law, which will serve as the true protectors of national sovereignty and the rights of all citizens without discrimination.

The Syrian Future Movement calls upon the international community and the United Nations to support the transitional phase in Syria and to assist Syria in preventing and halting Israeli aggression. It also urges the advancement of institution-building in a manner that guarantees the preservation of Syrian national identity and a peaceful and democratic transfer of power.
