Gas field development project with Saudi company “Adis”

The Syrian Future Movement is following with great interest the announcement by the Syrian Petroleum Company on Thursday, July 2, 2026, of the commencement of a project to develop and operate several gas fields in the central region of Homs Governorate, in cooperation with the Saudi company “Adis.” This commencement, marked by the handover of the work sites to the partner company, signals the start of the project’s implementation phase. The project aims to increase gas production by 25% within the first six months, reaching 50% within the first year, thereby raising production to approximately four million cubic meters per day.

The Syrian Future Movement appreciates the commencement of this project and commends the efforts exerted by both parties to reach this implementation phase, considering it a crucial step towards strengthening energy security and improving the stability of the electricity grid.

The Syrian Future Movement praises this step, which lays the foundation for boosting national gas production and contributes to alleviating the electricity crisis suffered by citizens by providing additional gas supplies necessary for power generation and improving grid stability.

The Syrian Future Movement highly values the Syrian Petroleum Company’s commitment to implementing the highest standards of quality, security, and safety, with a focus on transferring expertise and modern technologies and training national personnel. This strengthens local capabilities and ensures the project’s long-term sustainability.

We also see this cooperation with the Saudi company “Adis” as an extension of the positive momentum in Syrian-Saudi relations, which has manifested itself in numerous fields. It underscores that economic and investment cooperation is the cornerstone for building a shared future that benefits both countries and their brotherly peoples.

The Syrian Future Movement notes that the project aims to increase field production by 25% during the first six months, reaching 50% within the first year, thus raising production to approximately four million cubic meters of gas per day.

The Syrian Future Movement appreciates this approach, which enhances Syria’s ability to meet its energy needs, reduces the import bill, and provides additional financial resources that can be directed to other vital sectors.

The Syrian Future Movement notes that this project is part of a series of agreements signed with Saudi companies, such as TAQA, in addition to a memorandum of understanding with ConocoPhillips to explore new fields in eastern Syria. This indicates the existence of a comprehensive national strategy to develop the energy sector and attract foreign investment.

The Syrian Future Movement reiterates its firm positions supporting the development of the energy sector and strengthening cooperation with sister nations, as published on its official website. These positions include:

  • The statement issued at the launch of the Syrian-British Business Council Conference (dated July 2, 2026), which commended economic cooperation with Britain and emphasized the importance of transferring expertise and modern technologies and establishing genuine international partnerships.
  • The statement issued at the joint Gulf-American Declaration (dated June 27, 2026), which welcomed Gulf-American support for improving the investment climate in Syria and called for translating political support into concrete projects.

The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes that the success of the project depends on adherence to the established timelines, ensuring quality implementation, and overcoming any obstacles that may arise.

Based on its national responsibility, the Syrian Future Movement recommends the following:

  • Ensuring adherence to the established timelines for each phase of implementation, along with the adoption of regular and transparent monitoring mechanisms, to guarantee the achievement of the desired production increase goals within the specified timeframes, mirroring the Syrian Petroleum Company’s commitment to applying the highest quality standards.
  • Enhancing the transfer of expertise and modern technologies to national personnel through intensive training programs, to ensure the project’s sustainability and empower Syrian personnel to manage and operate the fields with high efficiency after the contract period ends.
  • Linking increased production to plans for improving the electricity grid and power distribution, to ensure that citizens experience a tangible improvement in services, and that the production increase does not remain merely a figure without practical implementation.
  • Continuing the process of attracting foreign investment to the energy sector, and building upon this successful model with the “Adis” company to expand cooperation with other international companies, similar to the memorandum of understanding with “ConocoPhillips,” thereby contributing to the comprehensive development of the sector.

The Syrian Future Movement reiterates its welcome of the commencement of this vital project and commends the efforts exerted by the Syrian government and the Syrian Petroleum Company to develop the energy sector and enhance energy security.

This project is not merely a technical step, but an investment in Syria’s future and a message of confidence to investors that the new Syria is open to cooperation and partnership.

We believe that the Syrian government and its international partners are called upon today to continue along this path and ensure that energy projects serve as a catalyst for sustainable development, a source of improved lives for citizens, and a foundation for building a new Syria based on sovereignty, dignity, and prosperity.
