World Day for Safety and Health at Work

On April 28th, designated by the world as the International Day for Safe and Healthy Work as a fundamental right, the Syrian Future Movement stands in tribute to Syria’s workers and producers, who represent the backbone of the recovery and reconstruction phase.

The Syrian Future Movement affirms that protecting the Syrian workforce during the current transitional phase is a national and ethical duty that tops the priorities of building a modern state. Recent reports from the International Labour Organization indicate that investing in occupational safety reduces economic losses resulting from workplace injuries, which are estimated globally at approximately 4% of GDP annually.

Here, the Syrian Future Movement believes that field reports demonstrate that the absence of safety standards in the construction and manufacturing sectors represents the greatest obstacle to attracting skilled Syrian expatriates. Therefore, including “occupational safety” as a fundamental condition in investment contracts is an indispensable pillar.

The Syrian Future Movement believes in the core values of this day, namely upholding the “right to life” and “human dignity” within workplaces. It considers any injury to a Syrian worker a depletion of irreplaceable human capital, especially at a time when we need every available hand to rebuild what the conflict has destroyed.

The Syrian Future Movement also emphasizes the need to revise labor laws to align with modern international standards, focusing on the effects of climate change and psychological stress in the workplace. This is based on the global trends for 2026, which recognize the “mental health” of workers as an integral part of the overall safety system.

Through its national vision, the Syrian Future Movement aspires to transform Syrian workplaces from mere production sites into exemplary environments that foster a sense of belonging and implement standards of transparency and good governance. This vision stems from the belief that a “safe worker” is the cornerstone of a “stable state.”

The Syrian Future Movement calls upon all economic actors and public and private institutions in Syria to adopt a culture of prevention rather than reactive measures, making human safety the compass guiding us toward a bright and prosperous Syrian future.
