Seminar: From the Dungeons of Palestine to the Hell of Saydnaya

The Syrian Future Movement has affirmed that the issue of detainees and those subjected to enforced disappearance remains a “red line” and a top priority on its political and human rights agenda. The movement emphasized its continued struggle—utilizing all institutional and legal avenues—to support the victims’ demands for justice and to uncover the fate of all those who have been forcibly disappeared.

This statement was made during the participation of a delegation from the movement in a documentation and awareness-raising seminar, hosted by the Arab Cultural Center in the Abu Rummaneh neighborhood of Damascus on October 31, 2026, titled “From the Dungeons of the Palestine Branch to the Hell of Saydnaya Prison.”

The seminar featured a vivid and poignant testimony from former detainee Mr. Mohammad Shukri Sheikhani, who recounted his suffering and the horrors he witnessed within the prisons and detention centers of the defunct regime.

The Syrian Future Movement’s delegation included Noha Muhairi and Samira Bazar Bashi, both members of the movement’s Legal Bureau, as well as Haidar Hammadi, Director of the Grassroots Office, and Bashira Abdul Hadi, a member of the movement.

Speaking on behalf of the Legal Bureau, Samira Bazar Bashi reiterated the movement’s principled, institutional commitment to championing the cause of released detainees and those forcibly disappeared. She underscored the movement’s ongoing efforts to advocate for their legitimate grievances and to ensure they secure their full legal and human rights, while categorically rejecting all forms of enforced disappearance and egregious violations of human dignity. Bazarbashi explained that the Syrian Future Movement considers it a primary national duty and responsibility to remain a unifying voice for human rights advocates, as well as for the families of those detained or forcibly disappeared. The movement is committed to resolutely pursuing this humanitarian issue until comprehensive justice, full transparency, and accountability are achieved. She further called upon all human rights, humanitarian, and civil society actors to join forces to amplify the voices of the victims and ensure their legitimate rights.

The movement concluded its coverage by paying tribute to the resilience of the detainees and the testimonies of the victims—accounts that document a dark chapter in Syria’s history. It emphasized that this engagement reaffirms a unified stance on human rights, an unwavering commitment to human rights causes, and steadfast support for the victims.
