The Syrian Future Movement follows with great appreciation and pride the launch, by the Syrian Ministry of Health on Sunday, July 19, 2026, of the specialized medical campaign “Bada’at Balaa” (A Batch of Affliction) at the University Cardiac Surgery Hospital in Damascus. This campaign aims to perform more than 830 specialized surgeries in five governorates: Damascus, Aleppo, Homs, Idlib, and Hama, with support from Qatar Charity and under the supervision of the Syrian Relief and Development Foundation (SRD).
Firstly, the Syrian Future Movement commends this important humanitarian initiative and praises Qatar’s continued support for the Syrian health sector, considering it a model of joint Arab cooperation in the field of humanitarian work and a practical step towards strengthening specialized health services and alleviating the suffering of thousands of patients.
The planned surgeries include highly specialized and critical procedures, most notably open-heart surgery, repair of congenital heart defects in children, cochlear implantation, and cataract removal.
We note that this campaign comes amidst a severe shortage of specialized healthcare services, a consequence of decades of neglect and systematic destruction of the health sector by the ousted regime. This makes the initiative a response to a critical and urgent need for thousands of patients.
Secondly, the Syrian Future Movement points out that this campaign is part of a series of Qatari initiatives supporting the Syrian health sector, reflecting a continued commitment to alleviating the suffering of Syrians and developing local medical capabilities.
We note that this campaign comes just weeks after the Qatar Red Crescent launched its “Giving Without Borders” campaign in February 2026, which focused on performing cardiac catheterizations and training local personnel.
We appreciate this continued Qatari support, which demonstrates a deep understanding of the scale of the health challenges in Syria and a genuine desire to build sustainable partnerships that extend beyond emergency relief to building national capacity.
Third: The Syrian Future Movement reiterates its unwavering support for developing the health sector and strengthening international partnerships, as published on its official website. This includes:
- The statement regarding the “Memorandum of Understanding with the Independent Doctors Association (IDA)” (dated June 19, 2026), which welcomed international partnerships in developing the health sector and emphasized the importance of transferring expertise and modernizing medical equipment.
- The statement regarding the “Inauguration of the First Radiotherapy System in Syria” (dated July 15, 2026), which commended the development of treatment capabilities in the field of oncology and stressed the importance of investing in modern medical technology.
Fourth: Based on its national responsibility, the Syrian Future Movement recommends the following:
- Ensuring transparency in the distribution of surgical procedures and guaranteeing their accessibility to the most vulnerable groups in all targeted governorates, taking into account critical and urgent cases, in line with the organizers’ commitment to conducting operations in five governorates.
- Documenting the experience and transferring expertise by involving Syrian medical personnel in all stages of the procedures and providing follow-up training programs to ensure the continuity of local medical capabilities after the campaign concludes.
- Strengthening coordination between the Ministry of Health, Qatar Charity, and the Syria Relief and Development Foundation to expand the scope of future campaigns to include more specialties and governorates, following the model of the “Giving Without Borders” campaign.
Leveraging this successful model to attract additional regional and international support for the comprehensive development of the health sector, providing modern medical equipment, training personnel, and rehabilitating the infrastructure of hospitals and health centers. The Syrian Future Movement reiterates its welcome of this high-quality humanitarian campaign and highly values Qatar’s continued support for the Syrian people.
We also reiterate that investing in the health of citizens is an investment in the future of Syria, and that joint Arab cooperation in this field constitutes a model to be emulated in humanitarian solidarity.
We call on the Syrian government and international partners to build on this momentum and expand the scope of these initiatives, so that they may serve as a model of successful partnership in the health sector, a source of improved lives for citizens, and a foundation for building a new Syria based on dignity and social justice.
