The “Food Expo 2026” exhibition kicks off in Damascus

The Syrian Future Movement is following with great interest the launch of the 21st edition of the Arab International Food Industries and Packaging Exhibition, “Food Expo 2026,” which opened on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at the Damascus Fairgrounds, under the patronage of the Ministry of Economy and Industry. The exhibition will run until June 25.

This exhibition, which features more than 300 local, Arab, and international companies from over ten countries, is a specialized economic platform reflecting a growing interest in the food industry sector and embodying a genuine desire to revitalize the Syrian economy and open new horizons for investment and trade.

Firstly, the Syrian Future Movement appreciates the convening of this exhibition, considering it a clear economic message about Syria’s return to the regional and international business map and an embodiment of the “New Syria” approach based on openness and cooperation.

The Syrian Future Movement commends the organization of this exhibition, which is the largest of its kind in Syria in years, bringing together more than 300 companies specializing in food industries and packaging from over ten countries.

The Syrian Future Movement sees this widespread participation, which the Director General of the Syrian Establishment for Exhibitions and International Markets, Muhammad Hamza, described as “reflecting the growing interest in the food industry sector,” as evidence that Syria is regaining its natural position as a destination for investment and business.

We particularly appreciate the efforts exerted by the Ministry of Economy and Industry and the Syrian Establishment for Exhibitions to support national products and work to restore the position of Syrian food products in global markets.

Secondly, the Syrian Future Movement notes that the food industry sector is one in which Syria possesses significant competitive advantages, a fact confirmed by officials during the exhibition, despite the damage it suffered during the years of the ousted regime.

We see the participation of more than 300 companies, with the largest share belonging to Syrian companies, as an indication of the national industry’s ability to compete and innovate, and of a genuine will to strengthen local products and increase Syrian food exports. In this context, we recall the findings of the study “Reconstruction Priorities in Syria” (published on our official website on December 19, 2024), which emphasized that rebuilding the productive sector, particularly the food industry, is a fundamental prerequisite for achieving sustainable development and creating job opportunities.

Thirdly, while the Syrian Future Movement appreciates this important economic event, it reminds us that the true success of the exhibition is not measured solely by the size of participation, but rather by its ability to translate trade agreements into actual contracts and to open new export markets for Syrian products.

Based on its national responsibility, the Syrian Future Movement recommends the following:

  1. Strengthening the role of specialized exhibitions as a permanent platform for communication between producers and investors, and working to organize similar exhibitions in other vital sectors, following the successful experiences of neighboring countries, to ensure the continuity and expansion of this economic momentum.
  2. Overcoming the obstacles facing Syrian exporters, especially in the areas of financing, logistics, and customs clearance, and working to simplify procedures to facilitate the movement of exports, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of Syrian products in foreign markets.
  3. Leveraging the exhibition to attract quality investments in the food industry sector by offering clear incentives to investors and developing the necessary infrastructure will contribute to modernizing factories, improving product quality, and increasing added value.
  4. Linking efforts to promote food products to agricultural development plans will ensure the availability of raw materials locally, reduce reliance on imports, and strengthen local supply chains, thus contributing to food security and supporting the national economy.

In conclusion, the Syrian Future Movement reiterates its welcome of the launch of this exhibition and appreciates the efforts exerted by the Syrian government and relevant institutions to revitalize the economic sector and open new horizons for cooperation and investment.

We emphasize that the success of these exhibitions is not an end in itself, but rather a means to achieve sustainable development, create job opportunities, improve citizens’ lives, and build a new Syria on solid economic foundations capable of competing in global markets.

The Syrian Future Movement will remain a supporter, critic, and monitor of this initiative, striving to build a new Syria based on social justice and sustainable development.
