World Design Day

On the occasion of World Design Day, celebrated this year under the theme “In-Between Spaces,” the Syrian Future Movement extends its deepest appreciation to Syrian creators and designers both within Syria and in the diaspora, affirming that design is a strategic tool for creating change and reshaping the social and structural contract of our country.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that design is the cornerstone of early recovery. The scale of destruction inflicted on Syrian infrastructure, estimated to cost approximately $216 billion for reconstruction according to the latest World Bank report for 2025, necessitates intelligent urban design that transcends mere concrete construction to create living spaces that preserve the dignity of citizens and promote social cohesion.

The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes the necessity of harnessing the creative potential of Syrian expatriates, especially given that, according to 2025 statistics, more than 9 million Syrians remain in the diaspora. We see these designers and experts as a reservoir of knowledge capable of transferring the latest standards of sustainability and innovation back to Syria to meet the demands of the modern era.

The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes that “designing public policies” is key to successfully managing the transitional phase. This is based on indicators demonstrating Syria’s urgent need for a comprehensive strategic reconstruction plan that prevents the return of nepotism and corruption, and ensures the equitable distribution of wealth and services according to social design principles.

The Syrian Future Movement adopts an ambitious vision for the “digital design” of government and services. With the global digital economy projected to reach $24 trillion by 2025, we believe that redesigning Syrian state institutions according to the “lean government” model and achieving comprehensive digital transformation is the only way to guarantee transparency and improve the living conditions of Syrians.

The Syrian Future Movement calls on all Syrian cultural and professional organizations to adopt the concept of “participatory design” in resolving local conflicts by creating dialogue spaces that are both architecturally and socially designed to bridge the gap between national components and transform “interstitial spaces” into points of cultural convergence, restoring Syria’s leading role in the region.

The Syrian Future Movement, as it commemorates this international day, renews its commitment to working with all national expertise to design a future worthy of the sacrifices of the Syrian people, transforming the rubble of war into building blocks for a modern, civilized state, firm in its principles and innovative in its solutions.
