Organizational steps of the New Syria Party

The Syrian Future Movement, as a national, civil political entity born from the Syrian revolution, follows with great interest and pride the organizational steps taken by our brothers in the New Syria Party, most notably the convening of their first conference in Damascus and the opening of a party office in Raqqa.

We see this step, in its timing and implications, as a qualitative addition to the emerging Syrian political landscape, and as confirmation that the Syrian will is steadily moving towards building the state on modern, democratic, and civil foundations.

Based on our national responsibility and our belief that building a new Syria begins with establishing the foundations of free and organized political action, we in the Syrian Future Movement declare our full and unequivocal support for these steps and congratulate the New Syria Party on its organizational achievement.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that in major national transformations, especially after decades of authoritarian rule that suppressed and eliminated any genuine political activity, political parties become “pillars of democracy and safeguards of stability.”

A genuine political system in Syria is inconceivable without political parties playing the following roles:

  • Bridging the gap and representing diversity. Syria is a country rich in ethnic, religious, and cultural diversity, and the existence of political parties that represent these various components contributes to integrating this complex fabric into a unifying national framework, preventing society from sliding into narrow sectarianism or sub-national loyalties.
In the absence of political parties, citizens’ voices remain fragmented and marginalized, and popular demands devolve into chaos instead of becoming clear programs and policies.
  • Building the bridge between the people and the government and ensuring legitimacy. Political parties serve as a vital bridge between the people and the government, granting the political process its legitimacy and stability. They are the only mechanism capable of nominating the most qualified individuals to represent the people in the next parliament and bear the responsibility of forming and holding governments accountable.
  • Ensuring oversight, transparency, and preventing corruption. Political parties, especially genuine opposition parties, play a fundamental oversight role that contributes to enhancing transparency, preventing corruption, and protecting public funds. In the absence of strong, oversight parties, power transforms into a private fiefdom, and the nation’s rights are usurped.
  • Developing political awareness and culture among citizens makes them more conscious of their role in public affairs, especially after years of repression and fear, as Syrians suffer from significant political apathy.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that if the absence of parties is dangerous, the existence of nominal, elitist parties, or those subservient to foreign agendas, is doubly dangerous.

For decades, Syrians have experienced only one “party,” the Ba’ath Party, which became an instrument of repression and the plundering of the country’s wealth.

We also believe that history confirms that:

  • The absence of genuine multi-party politics inevitably leads to a return to tyranny. Without fair competition and party oversight, a single entity monopolizes all the state’s resources, and democracy becomes mere slogans.
  • The absence of national party frameworks pushes citizens to rally around narrow loyalties (tribal, regional, sectarian), threatening to fragment the national fabric.
  • The opportunity for genuine reconstruction is lost, because no development project can succeed without broad and organized popular participation, and this participation can only be embodied through active political parties and forces.

Therefore, we in the Syrian Future Movement emphasize that a vibrant party system based on transparency, pluralism, and fair competition is not a democratic luxury, but an absolute necessity for building the nation and rescuing it from the clutches of corruption and chaos.

Based on all of the above, the Syrian Future Movement:

  • Highly values the initiative of the New Syria Party in holding its first conference in Damascus and opening its office in Raqqa, considering it a step in the right direction towards establishing a modern, civil state.
  • Congratulates our brothers in the party on this organizational achievement and pledges cooperation and integration in all matters that serve the Syrian public interest and fulfill our people’s aspirations for freedom, dignity, and justice.
  • Calls upon all Syrian national and political forces to emulate this step, expedite the organization of their ranks, and contribute effectively to building a new political life.
  • At the same time, it warns against the dangers of returning to a one-party system or puppet parties, and emphasizes the necessity for the anticipated political parties law to be modern, guaranteeing genuine pluralism and prohibiting any form of hegemony or exclusion.

The Syrian Future Movement affirms that building the new Syria is a project for all Syrians, and no individual, group, or entity can monopolize it. The road is long and arduous, but it begins with a single step, and that step is organizing ourselves into national parties and movements that strive wholeheartedly to serve this great nation.
