The Syrian Future Movement welcomes the inauguration of the new Al-Masrab water station by the General Establishment for Drinking Water in Deir ez-Zor on Monday, March 30, 2026, in cooperation with the local community in the town of Al-Masrab in the Deir ez-Zor countryside. This station is expected to provide clean drinking water to approximately 20,000 people after the completion of the distribution network extensions within the town. The local community undertook the construction work, while the Establishment carried out the mechanical and electrical work.
The Syrian Future Movement appreciates this initiative, which reflects a model of partnership between government institutions and the local community in rehabilitating infrastructure, especially in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, which has suffered for many years from a severe shortage of water services due to the destruction of infrastructure during the years of conflict. The Syrian Future Movement also commends the Establishment’s announcement of securing diesel fuel to operate water stations in the eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside (such as Al-Suwar and Al-Baghouz) to ensure the continuity of service despite power outages.
The Syrian Future Movement affirms that providing clean and sustainable drinking water is a fundamental national priority during the transitional phase, as it is directly linked to public health, social stability, and facilitating the return of displaced persons.
The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes that the success of water projects depends not only on the inauguration of stations, but also on their operational and technical sustainability, and ensuring equitable access to services for all neighborhoods and villages, regardless of regional or tribal considerations.
The Syrian Future Movement believes it is essential to develop a sustainable maintenance and operation plan for the Al-Masrab station, with a sufficient annual budget to guarantee its uninterrupted operation. Furthermore, it advocates expanding the partnership with local communities to include other water projects in rural Deir ez-Zor and affected areas, while ensuring the participation of youth and women in project management committees.
The Syrian Future Movement believes in the importance of linking water projects to plans for the safe and dignified return of displaced persons, and considers water provision a fundamental condition for restoring stability in the eastern regions.
We also believe in the importance of developing a comprehensive national strategy for the water sector that focuses on sustainable development, pollution control, and the use of modern desalination and irrigation technologies, in cooperation with specialized international organizations.
The Syrian Future Movement affirms that the Al-Masrab water station project represents a positive step on the path to rebuilding Syria, which guarantees all its citizens the right to clean water as a basis for human dignity and sustainable development, and establishes a modern state based on social justice and equal citizenship.
