The Syrian Future Movement warmly welcomes the announcement by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on Sunday, January 25, 2026, of the launch of a project to collect and remove approximately 75,000 tons of rubble in Deir ez-Zor Governorate. The Movement considers this a practical and tangible step towards early recovery and the revival of normal life in one of the areas most affected by the long years of conflict.
The Syrian Future Movement views this project—the largest of its kind since the program began its interventions in the governorate—as a positive model of local international cooperation in the national reconstruction phase. It combines the removal of physical debris with the creation of immediate job opportunities (166 direct jobs for local men and women), paving the way for the revitalization of economic activity in neighborhoods whose residents have begun to gradually return after years of forced displacement.
The Syrian Future Movement affirms that rubble removal is a profound socio-political act that restores dignity to the city, reopens streets and markets, contributes to the rehabilitation of infrastructure (such as the electricity grid and damaged markets), and sends a clear message of hope that the new Syria is capable of rebuilding its life step by step, starting with the most affected areas like Deir ez-Zor. The Syrian Future Movement calls for expanding the scope of such projects to encompass the entire Syrian territory, not limited to a single governorate or region, but extending to all cities and rural areas that have suffered destruction (Aleppo, Raqqa, Homs, Daraa, Idlib, Rural Damascus, and others). This expansion must be accompanied by ensuring a fair and transparent distribution of international and local resources, and the involvement of local communities and Syrian personnel in all stages of planning and implementation.
The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes the importance of linking these humanitarian and relief interventions to a comprehensive national reconstruction strategy that includes:
- Establishing a national fund for rubble removal and early rehabilitation, with international and local contributions.
- Prioritizing densely populated areas and facilitating the rapid return of displaced persons.
- Creating sustainable employment opportunities that go beyond temporary jobs, towards long-term development projects (agriculture, small industries, and essential services).
- Ensuring the participation of women and youth in employment opportunities and planning, to promote social cohesion and gender equality.
The Syrian Future Movement expresses its gratitude and appreciation to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and local authorities in Deir ez-Zor for this significant intervention. It affirms its readiness to cooperate with all national and international partners to transform these local initiatives into a national model encompassing all of Syria, from the far northeast to the far south, and from the coast to the desert.
The Syrian Future Movement is committed to supporting every effort that restores hope to Syrians and their right to a dignified life in their homeland. We believe that clearing the rubble is the first step towards rebuilding the nation.
