The Syrian Future Movement views the launch of the Syrian-British Business Council in Damascus on November 30, 2025, as a significant national opportunity to reintegrate Syria into the international economic arena after years of isolation. The Movement emphasizes that this Council can serve as a framework for strengthening cooperation between the Syrian and British private sectors in investment and trade, thus opening up prospects for genuine development.
The Syrian Future Movement believes it is essential that the Council’s partnerships be built on the principle of mutual benefit, the preservation of national sovereignty, and the promotion of the participation of Syrian forces domestically, rather than becoming a source of economic dependency or monopoly. The Movement also stresses the importance of directing investment towards productive sectors: industry, agriculture, education, services, and urban development, instead of focusing solely on reconstruction or rapid capital projects, however necessary these may be.
The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes the need for a clear legal and institutional framework: transparent contracts, investment regulations, protection of workers’ rights, and guarantees of a fair distribution of economic returns. The Syrian Future Movement believes that without this, a narrow segment of the population may benefit from the economic liberalization while the majority of the Syrian people remain marginalized, and economic disparities may widen again.
The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes the following:
- Prioritizing productive and developmental projects over those that are purely consumer-oriented or symbolic.
- Involving civil society and community organizations in monitoring project implementation to ensure equitable distribution.
- Ensuring that the Council’s projects are part of a comprehensive national vision for reconstruction and development, not isolated deals.
- Close monitoring by national forces and civil society of the Council’s outcomes and their impact on the economic and social realities of Syrians.
The Syrian Future Movement believes that launching the Syrian-British Business Council is a possible starting point for Syria’s reintegration into the global economy, provided it is accompanied by genuine national will, sound management, transparency, and equitable distribution.
The Syrian Future Movement believes that this step can become a launching pad for a comprehensive reconstruction and development phase, if the relevant parties adhere to the principles of justice, the public interest, and prioritizing the protection of the Syrian people’s interests.
