The Syrian Future Movement believes that the decision issued on December 2, 2025, to reduce customs duties on livestock imports (cattle, calves, camels, sheep, and goats) from approximately $53 to $7 per head, and from $27 to $7 for camels, constitutes an important economic step aimed at reducing import costs and expanding the supply of livestock in the local market.
The Syrian Future Movement affirms that this step provides a real opportunity to reduce the prices of meat and animal products, which will positively impact citizens’ purchasing power and help alleviate pressure on those with limited incomes, thus supporting food security during this transitional phase.
The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes that this decision should be viewed as part of a broader strategy, which includes encouraging local livestock and agricultural production, supporting farmers, improving animal feed, and modernizing legislation and regulations, instead of relying permanently on imports.
The Syrian Future Movement calls on relevant authorities to ensure fair market distribution, monitor prices, and provide the necessary infrastructure (transportation, hygienic slaughter, and health inspection) to guarantee that this policy translates into a tangible increase in the supply of meat at reasonable prices.
The Syrian Future Movement believes that such steps, if accompanied by a clear vision for economic reform, can contribute to alleviating the economic burdens on citizens and establishing food security, thus paving the way for genuine economic reconstruction based on production.
