The Syrian Future Movement followed with great interest the statements made on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, by the UN Deputy Secretary-General and Head of the Independent Commission on Missing Persons in Syria, Ms. Carla Quintana, in which she confirmed that the Commission possesses credible evidence indicating that some missing Syrians are still alive. This statement was made during her participation in the TRT World 2025 Forum.
The Syrian Future Movement values this international development as a crucial humanitarian and national step towards uncovering the truth and achieving justice for the victims and their families, after decades of oppression, enforced disappearances, and tyranny perpetrated by the former regime against hundreds of thousands of Syrians.
While affirming that the current transitional phase represents a historic moment for restoring national justice, the Syrian Future Movement calls upon the Syrian transitional government to handle this information with the utmost transparency and responsibility, and to work diligently with the UN Commission to facilitate its work and provide all necessary data, documents, and testimonies to help reveal the fate of the missing. The Syrian Future Movement also recalls the accounts given by some of those released regarding unusual activity within detention centers prior to their liberation, and the frequent reports of dozens of refrigerated trucks and other vehicles leaving Damascus for the new Yaboos -Lebanon road. These developments warrant a serious and public investigation, especially in light of the information provided by Ms. Quintana.
The Syrian Future Movement declares its full readiness to cooperate with the United Nations, the Syrian government, and national human rights organizations in all matters pertaining to this issue. This cooperation aims to unify technical and legal efforts to identify missing persons, document violations, and achieve transitional justice in accordance with international law and human rights standards.
The Syrian Future Movement affirms that the issue of the missing has never been, and will never be, a fleeting political matter. Rather, it is a profound national wound that touches the conscience of the entire Syrian nation. Approaching this issue with justice and fairness will contribute to establishing genuine national reconciliation and rebuilding trust between citizens and the new state institutions, based on transparency, dignity, and the right to know.
The Syrian Future Movement, while appreciating the efforts of the UN and valuing the struggle of the families of the missing, affirms that revealing the truth and holding those responsible accountable are essential conditions for building a state of law in the new Syria, a just and secure state that respects human beings and places their dignity at the heart of its national project.
