The Syrian Future Movement followed with interest the reception held by the President of the Syrian Arab Republic, Mr. Ahmed al-Sharaa, and his wife, Mrs. Latifa al-Droubi, on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, for the top-performing high school graduates and their parents at the People’s Palace in Damascus. The students were honored in recognition of their excellence and diligence, and their experiences and aspirations were heard. The Presidency emphasized the importance of education and the role of youth in building Syria’s future.
We in the Scientific Office of the Syrian Future Movement see this step as an important national message that transcends mere recognition. Receiving these high-achieving students at the highest sovereign institution in the country places education and academic achievement in the symbolic position they deserve. It affirms that building the new Syria is not based solely on rebuilding infrastructure and institutions, but begins first and foremost with building the Syrian individual, nurturing their intellect, protecting their right to education, and opening the doors of the future to their capabilities.
We also appreciate the presence of the students’ parents at this ceremony, as it acknowledges the role of the Syrian family, which has borne exceptional burdens during the years of war, displacement, and poverty, yet has continued to safeguard their children’s education and encourage their success. The Syrian Future Movement believes that honoring high-achieving students should be the beginning of a sustainable, institutional process, not a fleeting, ceremonial occasion. Syria’s true wealth today lies in the minds of its sons and daughters, and losing these high achievers due to poverty, weak universities, or emigration would be a national loss that would be difficult to compensate for.
Therefore, the Scientific Office of the Syrian Future Movement recommends the following:
Launching a national program to support high-achieving students in all Syrian governorates, following up with them from secondary school through university graduation and postgraduate studies.
Allocating full scholarships to top students, especially those from low-income families, and the children of martyrs, the missing, and the displaced, ensuring that economic circumstances do not hinder their continued academic excellence.
Establishing a national database of Syrian student talent and linking it to universities, research centers, and public and private institutions, thus enabling the transformation of academic excellence into scientific and productive energy that serves the state and society.
Giving special attention to high-achieving students in governorates, rural areas, and affected regions, and guaranteeing equal opportunities free from centralization, favoritism, and regional or social discrimination.
Developing a national scholarship and scientific exchange program tailored to Syria’s actual needs in medicine, engineering, technology, artificial intelligence, agriculture, economics, management, and other fields, while creating incentives and practical pathways for skilled individuals to return and serve their country.
Linking the recognition of excellence to reforming the educational environment itself; from improving the conditions of teachers and instructors, developing curricula, and rehabilitating schools, universities, and laboratories, to promoting scientific research and digital transformation.
Involving outstanding students and young people in national dialogues concerning education, scientific research, and the future of universities, as students are not merely recipients of educational policies, but partners in their evaluation and development.
The Syrian Future Movement affirms that the Syria we aspire to is a country where knowledge becomes a path to status, competence a path to responsibility, and diligence a path to opportunity; a country where young Syrians do not need to leave their homeland to find an environment that respects their talents and invests in their abilities.
Opening the doors of the People’s Palace to outstanding students is a beautiful gesture, but what is more important is that the doors of universities, laboratories, research centers, state institutions and the labor market be opened to them afterward, and that every Syrian student feels that his country knows his value and needs his knowledge.
