Damascus bombings and protecting national stability

The Syrian Future Movement strongly condemns the bombings that struck Damascus today, coinciding with the historic visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to the Syrian Arab Republic. These attacks resulted in several injuries and heightened security concerns.

Initial reports confirm that the French President was not at the site of the bombings and that his official visit continued as scheduled. Competent authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, and no group has yet claimed responsibility.

The Syrian Future Movement condemns this criminal act in the strongest terms. It believes that targeting security and stability in the Syrian capital, at a time of unprecedented diplomatic engagement with the new Syria, serves only those forces seeking to derail the recovery process and keep the country hostage to chaos and violence.

The Syrian Future Movement affirms that confronting terrorism and sabotage is a shared national responsibility, and that protecting civilians, diplomatic missions, and public institutions is a non-negotiable priority. This will bolster the confidence of the Syrian people and the international community in the state’s ability to establish security and the rule of law.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that such attacks should not disrupt the path of international engagement or weaken opportunities for political and economic cooperation and reconstruction. Rather, they should serve as an additional impetus to strengthen security cooperation, combat terrorism, and consolidate the stability that Syrians need.

Based on its national responsibility, the Syrian Future Movement calls for:

  1. A professional, transparent, and swift investigation, the publication of its findings to the public, and the accountability of all those involved.
  2. Strengthening security measures to protect citizens, vital infrastructure, and diplomatic missions, in accordance with the law.
  3. Continuing the path of international engagement and preventing terrorism from hindering Syria’s return to its Arab and international environment.
  4. Unifying national efforts to confront all forms of terrorism and violence, and consolidating the rule of law and the institutions of the state.

The Syrian Future Movement reiterates its solidarity with all those injured and affected, and affirms that Syria’s future must be built on dialogue, development, and justice, not on bombings and bloodshed.
