At a time when the health sector in our country is suffering from severe structural challenges that have cast a shadow over the lives of thousands of patients, the Syrian Future Movement joins medical organizations and humanitarian associations around the world in commemorating “World Brain Tumor Day,” declaring its full solidarity with patients and their families, and launching a comprehensive national appeal to save cancer patients in Syria.
The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes the vital importance of World Brain Tumor Day, launched by the German Brain Tumor Association in 2000 and adopted by ministries of health and medical institutions in Arab countries and worldwide, as a crucial platform for raising awareness of the symptoms of this silent disease and providing psychological and medical support to those affected.
The Syrian Future Movement bases its assessment on regional medical data showing an alarming increase in cancer rates in Syria, amidst a severe shortage exceeding 60% in chemotherapy drugs and radiotherapy supplies, in addition to the widespread emigration of specialized medical personnel, which threatens the lives of thousands of patients facing the disease without even the minimum level of care.
The Syrian Future Movement presents a realistic vision that takes into account the circumstances of the transitional phase; The Syrian Future Movement believes that the issue of cancer patients in Syria is a matter that transcends politics, touching upon the right to life. It demands the complete neutrality of the health sector in all conflicts and the guarantee of unimpeded flow of medical and diagnostic aid across border crossings and supply lines.
The Syrian Future Movement calls for a civilized and progressive approach that includes a “general Syrian call for participation.” We extend an open and urgent invitation to all societal forces, local councils, Syrian humanitarian organizations, and the Syrian diaspora to rally around a unified national initiative to support cancer treatment centers, secure the necessary funding to purchase life-saving doses, and establish a national solidarity network to support patients’ families.
Looking ahead, the Syrian Future Movement considers rebuilding the health system a top priority for a stable Syria. We believe that investing in national research centers, localizing early cancer detection programs, and partnering with the World Health Organization and international organizations are the cornerstones for ensuring sustainable health security that protects future generations.
