In a rare move against an international and renowned media outlet, the Assad regime announced yesterday, Saturday, the revocation of the accreditation of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), describing its reports as “misleading.” In response, the BBC issued a statement emphasizing that it provides independent and impartial journalism to its audience across the Arab world.

The action against “BBC News Arabic” came specifically after it published an investigation last month, in which it revealed links between Captagon traders and prominent figures within the Assad regime and his family.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that the Assad regime, which has been accustomed to a policy of silencing voices since it took power in Syria, and has faced the press and media with repression and crackdowns, continues to pursue these steps without caring about the implications, which involve the suppression of facts and the distortion of realities.

The Syrian Future Movement sheds light once again on the suffering of journalists and reporters as a result of exposing the regime’s violations against the Syrian people’s demands for freedom. According to human rights networks, this has resulted in the killing of more than 580 journalists (including foreigners) since 2011, in addition to the torture and detention of thousands.

The Syrian Future Movement calls on the international community to stand with the Syrian people in their quest for a safe and stable Syria that guarantees human dignity and ensures freedom. This begins with freedom of speech and extends to various media channels and their diverse platforms, which connect to the free world in every time and place.
