Statement by 12 countries regarding the Israeli aggression against Syria

The Syrian Future Movement is following with great interest the joint statement issued by the foreign ministers of 12 Arab and Islamic countries on Friday, August 21, 2026, which condemned the Israeli airstrikes on Abu al-Duhur military airport in northwestern Syria, considering them a dangerous escalation and a violation of the country’s sovereignty, security, stability, and territorial integrity.

The Syrian Future Movement appreciates this international stance, which embodies an important consensus rejecting Israeli aggression, expresses clear solidarity with Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and constitutes diplomatic pressure on Israel and the international community to assume their responsibilities.

However, the Syrian Future Movement reiterates that statements and diplomatic positions, no matter how extensive, are insufficient on their own to deter aggression or protect sovereignty. The true test lies in translating these condemnations into practical, deterrent measures that compel Israel to cease its attacks and force the international community to take concrete steps to protect international law and the UN Charter.

The Syrian Future Movement notes that the joint statement issued by 12 countries, representing a diverse geographical range (Arab, Islamic, and Asian), carries significant and promising implications:

First: Strengthening Arab and Islamic diplomatic support for Syria – We note that this statement, which included key Arab states (such as Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar) and influential Islamic states (such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, and Turkey), constitutes a broad network of diplomatic solidarity. This strengthens Syria’s position in international forums and demonstrates that Israeli aggression is facing increasing regional and international rejection, which weakens Israeli justifications and reinforces the Syrian position.

Second: Expanding the scope of demands to halt violations – We observe that the statement did not limit itself to condemnation but included an explicit call for the international community to adopt a “firm, clear, and principled” stance. It also demanded a guarantee of full respect for the 1974 Disengagement Agreement and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the occupied territories. This broadens the scope of demands and engages the international community in assuming its responsibility.

Third: Warning of the repercussions of continued violations – We emphasize that the statement warned that the continuation of Israeli violations “threatens to increase tension and undermine regional peace and stability, as well as weaken respect for international law,” thus highlighting the broader dimensions of these attacks, which extend beyond the bilateral framework to their repercussions on the entire regional and international system.

In this context, the Syrian Future Movement reiterates its firm positions published on its official website, which affirm the priority of national sovereignty and the rejection of foreign aggression:

  1. Statement on “Israeli Raids on Abu al-Duhur Airport” (dated August 19, 2026): Condemned the Israeli aggression against Syrian sovereignty and affirmed that the continuation of these attacks constitutes a flagrant violation of international law.
  2. Statement on “Arab League Statements Regarding Colombia’s Recognition of Israeli Sovereignty over the Golan Heights” (dated August 21, 2026): Stressed the rejection of any recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Golan Heights and affirmed that sovereignty cannot be acquired by force.

The Syrian-Iraqi Judicial Cooperation Statement (dated August 14, 2026) commended judicial cooperation in combating terrorism, considering it a model for Arab cooperation in confronting shared challenges, thus strengthening stability.

Based on its national responsibility, the Syrian Future Movement recommends the following:

Transforming international condemnation into practical steps:

Urging the signatory states to move from condemnation to action by submitting official memoranda to the United Nations and the Security Council to adopt binding resolutions that prevent Israel from repeating its attacks.

Working to form an independent international commission to investigate Israeli violations, submit its reports to international forums, and hold those involved in these violations accountable.

Strengthening Syrian diplomatic coordination with supporting countries:

Building upon the joint statement to develop sustainable diplomatic consultation mechanisms between Syria and the signatory states to address security and diplomatic challenges and respond swiftly to any new attacks.

Engaging civil society and human rights organizations:

To document Israeli violations, mobilize international public opinion, and expose Israeli practices, thereby increasing pressure on world governments to adopt more decisive stances.

Linking the Israeli Aggression to Reconstruction and Stability Efforts:

Emphasizing in international forums that the continuation of the attacks hinders reconstruction efforts and discourages investment, thus posing a threat to the stability of the entire region and weakening the prospects for peace and development.

The Syrian Future Movement appreciates the joint statement issued by the 12 countries, viewing it as a positive development in diplomatic support for Syria and an important step towards strengthening the Syrian position in the face of Israeli aggression. The Syrian Future Movement reiterates that protecting national sovereignty is a responsibility shared by the state, the people, and the international community, and that diplomatic efforts must be accompanied by strengthening national capabilities and the resilience of the Syrian people.

The Syrian Future Movement affirms that the continuation of Israeli attacks will only increase the Syrian people’s determination to hold fast to their land and sovereignty, and that diplomatic and legal struggle is a complementary path to the national struggle. As an independent national political movement born from the womb of the Syrian revolution, the Syrian Future Movement will remain supportive of everything that strengthens Syria’s sovereignty and unity, critical of everything that hinders its achievement, and monitoring everything that is accomplished on the ground, striving for a new Syria that regains its full sovereignty and in which justice and dignity prevail.
