International Day for Dialogue Among Civilizations

The Syrian Future Movement believes that the United Nations’ designation of June 10 as the “International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations,” by General Assembly Resolution (A/RES/78/286), represents a global recognition that pluralism is a source of strength for humanity, not a cause of conflict.

The Syrian Future Movement affirms that this day embodies the values of tolerance, mutual recognition, and combating hate speech—essential pillars that Syria needs today to rebuild its social fabric, which has been exhausted by years of war and polarization.

The Syrian Future Movement announces its national program, which is based on transforming “dialogue” from a mere protocol slogan into a daily political and institutional practice, through sponsoring inclusive national dialogues that bring together all Syrian components without exclusion.

The Syrian Future Movement also emphasizes the necessity of formulating a “new social contract” that guarantees political pluralism, administrative decentralization, and equal citizenship, thereby rebuilding trust between the citizen and the state. Furthermore, we aspire to end Syria’s international isolation and integrate it into the international community as an active partner in regional peace and security, based on the principles of international law and relevant UN resolutions concerning Syria.

The Syrian Future Movement warns of the continued economic and humanitarian fragility. Recent UN reports for 2025/2026 indicate that approximately 75% of the population (three-quarters of Syrians) remain in dire need of urgent humanitarian and relief assistance (according to the briefing by the Acting Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs).

The Syrian Future Movement also condemns the dire situation in the education and childhood sectors. International human rights reports (such as ReliefWeb) show that between 40% and 50% of Syrian children (aged 6-15) are deprived of their fundamental right to education and schooling.

We emphasize that the absence of genuine political dialogue in the previous phase exacerbated the displacement crisis, with more than 7 million internally displaced persons facing extremely complex and dangerous living and security conditions.

In light of the above, the Syrian Future Movement recommends the following:

  • Expanding civic space by lifting previous restrictions on political parties and civil society organizations to ensure genuine community participation.
  • Activating transitional justice and consolidating the role of the independent national body responsible for the cases of detainees and the forcibly disappeared, and holding those involved in human rights violations accountable to ensure sustainable national reconciliation.
  • Integrating efforts with the international community and cooperating closely with UN and EU missions to accelerate early recovery and reconstruction programs.
  • Constitutional and security reforms by expediting the drafting of a permanent constitution that paves the way for free and fair elections, in parallel with restructuring and reforming the security sector to enforce the rule of law and ensure that weapons are solely in the hands of the state.
