Syrian popular movement condemns Israeli “execution of prisoners” law

The Syrian Future Movement is following with a high sense of national and patriotic responsibility the wave of popular Syrian anger that swept the country in early April 2026, condemning the Israeli occupation authorities’ continued efforts to legitimize killing through the so-called “Law for the Execution of Palestinian Prisoners.” The Movement affirms that this legislation is nothing but a stab in the back of international justice and a death knell for the global human rights system.

The Syrian Future Movement salutes the Syrian popular movement extending from south to north, specifically mentioning the massive protests in Liberation Square in Quneitra, the angry demonstrations in the cities and towns of Daraa (Tafas, Nawa, and Sanamayn), the solidarity rallies in Damascus squares and Jaramana camp, and the student demonstrations at Aleppo University and in the city center of Idlib.

The Syrian Future Movement sees in this Syrian consensus a clear message that the cause of freedom and dignity is indivisible, and that Syrian and Palestinian blood is one in the face of tyranny and occupation.

The Syrian Future Movement strongly condemns the occupation’s attempts to intimidate demonstrators in the western Daraa countryside through the use of flares and provocative military maneuvers. It affirms that the right to express solidarity with prisoners is a sacred right guaranteed by international law, and that the “iron fist” policy will not deter people from demanding their legitimate rights.

From a legal standpoint, the Syrian Future Movement emphasizes that the “law to execute prisoners” constitutes a blatant violation of Article 6 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and a grave breach of the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949. It calls upon the International Criminal Court and international human rights organizations to take immediate action to halt this moral and legal decline perpetrated by the Israeli Knesset.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that the Syrian people’s outcry today against “death laws” and “arbitrary arrests” stems from their own suffering under enforced disappearances and unjust death sentences. The Movement affirms that the Syria of the future it envisions is one that upholds the rule of law and justice, and rejects all forms of extrajudicial killings outside the framework of a fair and independent judiciary.

The Syrian Future Movement concludes its statement by reaffirming its unwavering support for the prisoners’ movement in the occupation’s prisons and its absolute support for the Syrian people’s right to peacefully express their moral stances. It considers the unified Syrian demonstrations of solidarity with Palestine to be the strongest evidence of the Syrian people’s vitality and their determination to achieve freedom and reclaim their usurped rights.
