The Syrian Future Movement affirms its unwavering commitment to protecting human rights, rejecting all forms of torture, arbitrary arrest, and enforced disappearance, and defending the dignity of every Syrian citizen, regardless of their political, ethnic, or geographical affiliation, as the foundation for building a state of law and inclusive transitional justice.
The Syrian Future Movement strongly condemns the killing of Alaa Adnan al-Amin (33 years old, a Swedish citizen of Syrian Kurdish origin) under torture in detention centers run by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). He was arbitrarily arrested on October 20, 2025, from his home in the al-Siyahi neighborhood of Qamishli, without a warrant or explanation for his arrest. He was held for six months under mysterious circumstances until his body was handed over to his family on March 8, 2026, from the National Hospital in al-Hasakah.
The Syrian Future Movement condemns the grave violations reported by the family and medical sources, including clear signs of torture on the body (fractures in the skull, nose, and ribcage), despite attempts to cover up the crime with official medical reports claiming a natural death (heart attack). This indicates a systematic policy of impunity in SDF-controlled areas.
The Syrian Future Movement strongly condemns the recent escalation in Qamishli on the morning of March 11, 2026, when SDF intelligence and Revolutionary Youth members burned the mourning tent erected for the martyr in front of the family home, fired shots at the house, and threatened the family members, demanding they leave the city under threat of suffering a fate similar to Alaa’s (death). This forced the family to remove the tent out of fear for the safety of mourners and other citizens.
The Syrian Future Movement welcomes the formation of a high-level investigative committee by the Asayish (Kurdish security forces) into the incident.
However, it emphasizes the necessity for this committee to be completely independent and transparent, including neutral observers and representatives from international and local human rights organizations, and to produce tangible results, including:
- A full disclosure of the circumstances surrounding the arrest and death, and the identification of those responsible for the torture.
- Holding accountable those involved in the crime, the attack on the mourning gathering, and the threats.
- Ensuring immediate and effective protection for the martyr’s family and all witnesses and activists following the case.
- Ending all forms of intimidation and extrajudicial arrests in the areas under the Autonomous Administration.
The Syrian Future Movement calls upon the interim government and the international parties sponsoring the political process in Syria (including the Global Coalition against ISIS) to intervene urgently to stop these recurring violations, ensure the rule of law in all Syrian regions, and launch an independent international investigation into the case of Alaa al-Amin and other cases of torture and enforced disappearance.
The Syrian Future Movement renews its commitment to supporting all efforts that reveal the truth, achieve justice for the victims, and protect citizens from violations, regardless of who is responsible, because building the future Syria begins with protecting the dignity of every individual and rejecting the culture of impunity.
