The Syrian Future Movement warmly welcomes the decision of the Minister of Economy and Industry, Dr. Nidal al-Shaar, No. 2025/M.A., dated December 15, 2025, regarding the formation of the Syrian-British Business Council, chaired by Mr. Munther Nuzha, with Mr. Muhammad Haikal and Mr. Samer Shamsi Basha as his deputies. The Council aims to enhance economic, trade, and investment cooperation between the Syrian Arab Republic and the United Kingdom.
The Syrian Future Movement views this step as a practical culmination of the efforts that began with the launch of the Council’s work on October 30, 2025, and reflects Syria’s gradual return to its rightful place in the international community after years of forced isolation. We see it as a strong positive indicator of genuine economic recovery, based on attracting productive foreign investment, transferring technology, and creating decent job opportunities for the Syrian people during this early recovery phase.
The Syrian Future Movement firmly believes that economic recovery is the fundamental prerequisite for achieving political stability and civil peace. A strong economy means a dignified life for citizens, reduced poverty, the rebuilding of infrastructure, and empowering youth and women to contribute to the future of their country.
The Syrian Future Movement calls for strengthening this initiative by:
- Ensuring the highest levels of transparency and good governance in the Council’s work, with the participation of representatives from the independent private sector and civil society in decision-making and oversight mechanisms.
- Directing anticipated investments toward productive sectors of national priority, such as manufacturing, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, and vocational education, to ensure a fair distribution of benefits across all Syrian regions.
- Linking international economic cooperation to tangible progress in domestic reforms, including combating corruption, improving the business environment, and strengthening the rule of law, to attract long-term investments that serve the interests of the people, not short-term deals.
- Expanding this Council model to include similar partnerships with other European and Asian countries, to diversify the Syrian economy and avoid any potential dependency.
The Syrian Future Movement reaffirms its full commitment to supporting all initiatives that contribute to the economic and social reconstruction of Syria, and calls upon all active national forces and international partners to unite their efforts to build a strong national economy worthy of the sacrifices of the Syrian people and their aspirations for a free, unified, independent, and prosperous Syria.
