The UNDOF flag was raised in the Quneitra countryside.

The Syrian Future Movement is following with great interest the reports in local media regarding the raising of the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) flag on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, over a former military post in the village of Kodna, in the Quneitra countryside, which was previously occupied by forces of the former regime. This post is located near Israeli occupation positions in Tel al-Ahmar al-Gharbi.

While the Syrian Future Movement expresses its respect for the role of the United Nations and international peacekeeping missions, it notes with astonishment the symbolic nature of this step, given the continued daily Israeli violations of the Disengagement Line and its repeated attacks on Syrian territory. Neither UNDOF nor the UN has issued any firm stance demonstrating a genuine commitment to the relevant Security Council resolutions, most notably Resolution 350 of 1974, which established the Disengagement Observer Force.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that raising the UN flag at a point under direct Israeli control can only be interpreted as an ambiguous symbolic message, reflecting a continued superficial approach to the issue of Syrian sovereignty in the south. It also evokes memories of a long period of UN inaction in protecting Syrian civilians or addressing the occupation’s repeated violations of ceasefire agreements.

The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes that the transitional phase the country is undergoing necessitates a restructuring of relations with international organizations based on transparency, accountability, and mutual respect for national sovereignty. Any UN presence on Syrian soil must be aimed at serving genuine stability, not at entrenching the status quo or coexisting with the occupation.

The Syrian Future Movement calls on the United Nations to activate effective monitoring mechanisms in southern Syria, to provide clear reports to the public on repeated Israeli violations, and to exert pressure to end all forms of occupation, in accordance with the UN Charter and the principles of international law.

In this context, the Syrian Future Movement emphasizes that preserving Syrian sovereignty and territorial integrity is a shared responsibility between the people, the state, and international institutions, and that respecting internationally recognized borders is a fundamental condition for building sustainable peace in the region.

The Syrian Future Movement, while reaffirming its commitment to working towards building a state of law, strong institutions, and full national sovereignty, asserts that restoring southern Syria to its natural role can only be achieved through a legitimate, national, and civilian authority that expresses the free will of the Syrian people and operates within the framework of international law and UN resolutions that guarantee the right of peoples to self-determination.
