The Syrian Future Movement is closely monitoring developments related to the return of Syrian refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their homeland following the fall of the Assad regime and the assumption of leadership by President Ahmed al-Sharaa. The latest official data from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) indicates that more than 1,208,802 Syrian refugees have voluntarily returned since the fall of the previous regime. In addition, approximately 1,900,000 IDPs have returned to their areas of origin or intend to do so. This reflects the growing confidence among citizens in the new transitional phase and their active desire to participate in rebuilding the state and society.
The Syrian Future Movement values this voluntary return and considers it a historic opportunity to rebuild Syria on the foundations of justice, transparency, and the rule of law. It emphasizes the following:
- Rebuilding state institutions through the development of public administration, strengthening the capacities of executive and judicial institutions, and ensuring the efficiency and impartiality of state institutions to enhance public trust and achieve justice for all citizens.
- Providing essential services, including health, education, housing, electricity, and water, to ensure that the areas of return are capable of receiving refugees and IDPs and sustainably integrating them into their communities.
- Promoting economic and social development by supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and encouraging national and international investment in liberated areas, thereby contributing to job creation and stimulating voluntary return.
- Protecting the fundamental rights of citizens, including the rights to education, work, and healthcare, and ensuring equality for all Syrians without ethnic, religious, or social discrimination.
- Encouraging civic and political participation by involving citizens in public policy-making and promoting national dialogue and community initiatives, thereby ensuring the unity of Syrian society and the stability of the state. The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes the necessity of close cooperation with international and local organizations to ensure that returns are voluntary and safe, and to guarantee that the new government provides full support to returnees, including rehabilitation, relief, and housing programs, and the restoration of damaged infrastructure. This transitional phase represents an unprecedented opportunity to rebuild the Syrian state on strong and sustainable foundations, to strengthen the spirit of citizenship and shared responsibility among all Syrians, and to ensure that the future Syria is a state of law, justice, and equality, capable of protecting the rights of its citizens and achieving comprehensive and sustainable development for all regions and governorates.
The Syrian Future Movement affirms that a promising Syrian future will only be built through national cooperation, transparency, and commitment to democratic principles and social justice. This is a project that requires the participation of all Syrians, whether returning or residing, in building a safe, prosperous, and stable homeland.
