Israeli occupation statements regarding Mount Hermon and the occupied areas in Syria

The Syrian Future Movement followed with great interest the recent statements made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on October 19, 2025, regarding his country’s intention to remain on Mount Hermon and the occupied territories after the fall of the Assad regime. The Syrian Future Movement considers these statements a blatant violation of Syrian sovereignty and a continuing assault on international law and UN resolutions related to occupation and territorial independence.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that the continued Israeli occupation of these strategic areas not only poses a direct threat to Syrian security, but also reflects a persistent Israeli desire to impose a fait accompli by force, in contravention of the principles of international justice and the right of peoples to self-determination. This behavior also serves as a reminder that nations can only preserve their borders through sovereignty and measured legal and political resistance, not by remaining silent in the face of violations.

The Syrian Future Movement’s Recommendations:

  1. To the Syrian Government:
The necessity of strengthening the diplomatic position at the international level to affirm Syrian sovereignty and reject any attempts at occupation or military expansion.
Take practical steps to secure strategic border areas and intensify coordination with the international community to ensure respect for UN resolutions.
Use legal and diplomatic channels to hold the Israeli occupation accountable before the UN Security Council and General Assembly, and avoid falling into the trap of war, which would benefit the Netanyahu government.
  2. To the international community:
Call on all states and international organizations to pressure Israel to halt any unilateral measures that undermine international law and violate the sovereignty of a UN member state.
Remind Israel of its international obligations under relevant UN conventions and Security Council resolutions.
  3. To the Syrian people:
Educate society about the danger of the continued occupation and the importance of national unity in the face of any external threat.
Strengthen civil and political steadfastness and participate effectively in supporting the state’s position legally and diplomatically.

The Syrian Future Movement affirms that defending national sovereignty is a collective national duty, and that resisting foreign aggression does not contradict commitment to international law, but rather represents a practical translation of the principle of political justice and a realistic philosophy of statecraft.
