Statement on the establishment of an independent institution to uncover the fate of missing and disappeared persons in Syria

The Syrian Future Movement:
Praises the position of 83 United Nations member states in voting in favor of the UN General Assembly resolution establishing an independent institution concerned with uncovering the fate of missing and disappeared persons in the Syrian Arab Republic.

The Syrian Future Movement:
Appreciates the steadfast humanitarian and moral stance of the states of Qatar and Kuwait in supporting the Syrian people and their relentless pursuit of freedom and their full and deserved rights. It considers these positions to constitute a solid barrier against the ominous steps of Arab normalization with the criminal Assad regime.

The Syrian Future Movement:
Beyond any doubt or suspicion, the Assad regime has adopted the tactic of enforced disappearance since the first days of its rule and arbitrary arrests with every popular revolutionary movement, not to mention the field killings and the subsequent methods of repression and intimidation.

The Syrian Future Movement: The Syrian regime calls for the immediate disclosure of the fate of hundreds of thousands of forcibly disappeared persons in its prisons and those of its agents inside and outside Syria, as well as in Hezbollah prisons in Lebanon and elsewhere.

The Syrian Future Movement:
Calls on international community organizations and judicial organizations to continue to shoulder their humanitarian, moral, and legal responsibility to uncover the fate of the victims and missing persons in Assad’s prisons, with the focal point being (the UN General Assembly’s resolution today to establish an independent institution concerned with uncovering the fate of the missing and disappeared in the Syrian Arab Republic).
