The Civil Initiative to Resolve the Sweida Crisis

Given the delicate circumstances facing Syria, and with the ongoing national efforts to build a unified state for all Syrians, the Syrian Future Movement declares its full support for the civil initiative aimed at addressing the Sweida crisis. This initiative was launched by a group of national figures dedicated to preserving the social fabric and strengthening national belonging.

The Syrian Future Movement views this initiative, which calls for comprehensive dialogue and an end to sectarian incitement, as a fundamental step toward consolidating the values of peaceful coexistence and affirming belonging to a single homeland that unites all Syrians, free from any alignments that threaten the country’s unity.

The Syrian Future Movement, which is based on a unifying national vision for a future Syria, affirms that this initiative reflects the true spirit of Syrian patriotism and categorically rejects any foreign interference or calls for separatism. We emphasize the importance of distinguishing between the legitimate demands of the people of the country and actions that undermine Syria’s unity, as recently occurred in some demonstrations in Sweida, where symbols of foreign countries were raised and slogans were chanted that contradicted the unifying national will. Such actions do not represent the authentic Syrian people; rather, they are exploited to fragment the national ranks and are unacceptable in form and substance.

While we in the Syrian Future Movement reject these actions, our position stems from our commitment to Syria’s unity, not from a desire for escalation. Therefore, we support the initiative’s call to halt incitement and return to a comprehensive national dialogue that includes all parties without exception to address the accumulated crises, including the kidnappings, killings, and displacement witnessed in Sweida and other areas. We consider this an extension of the call of the movement’s leader, Dr. Zaher Badrani, to accept his mediation to resolve the Sweida issue and contribute to its consolidation.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that strengthening a comprehensive national discourse, as emphasized by the initiative’s organizers, is the best way to rebuild trust and restore the social fabric, free from sectarianism and divisions, while emphasizing the Syrian identity that unites Arabs, Kurds, Druze, and others under the banner of one homeland.

The Syrian Future Movement calls on all Syrians to engage in this constructive dialogue. It also calls on the relevant parties to provide a safe environment that ensures the initiative’s success and to reject any attempts at external exploitation. We will remain committed to our vision of a unified Syria, where law and justice prevail and the rights of all citizens are protected without discrimination. We will turn the page on division and chart a future worthy of the sacrifices of our great people.
