The Syrian Future Movement follows the report issued by the International Commission of Jurists on August 2, 2025, which documented serious violations against civilians in As-Suwayda Governorate, resulting in more than 1,120 casualties and the displacement of thousands of families.
We affirm that these crimes represent a pivotal moment in the process of restoring national justice and impose direct responsibility on all state institutions.
The Syrian Future Movement stresses the importance of activating an independent and impartial investigation that includes all parties. This investigation should not only examine violations committed by official bodies, but also include the role of armed factions in As-Suwayda, which facts demonstrate were the primary perpetrators of violence and crimes against civilians in Bedouin villages and other areas.
Justice cannot be selective, nor can it overlook unofficial actors who acted outside the law and under the guise of societal impunity.
The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes that armed factions are not an alternative to the state. The monopoly of arms by some local factions, and their imposition of authority over communities in the name of “protection” or “representation,” does not represent protection for civilians but rather a direct threat to civil peace. Every armed group must be subject to legal accountability, regardless of its identity or background.
The Syrian Future Movement holds the government responsible for leaving weapons in the hands of local groups without oversight or legal controls. We demand that it stop its policy of turning a blind eye to violations committed by unofficial parties, as the responsibility to protect civilians is indivisible.
The Syrian Future Movement calls on all components of Sweida, including the Druze and Bedouin communities, to play their part in providing testimony and exposing violations by all parties, enabling the formulation of a just national narrative that acknowledges the suffering and seeks redress.
The Syrian Future Movement believes that the path to national reconciliation begins with overturning the logic of impunity and affirming that Syrians cannot be killed or displaced and then have their page turned. Justice is not built on ignorance, but rather on the courage to confront the whole truth, using independent judicial tools and community participation.
The Syrian Future Movement believes that Syria’s future will only be safeguarded when all those who opened fire, ordered arrests, and turned a blind eye to killings are held accountable. The investigation into the events in Sweida will not be complete without holding accountable the armed factions, who have become part of the crisis, not its solution.
