Fatwa of the Supreme Fatwa Council regarding the events in Sweida

The Syrian Future Movement views with great appreciation and respect the fatwa issued by the Supreme Fatwa Council of the Syrian Arab Republic on Saturday, Muharram 24, 1447 AH (July 19, 2025 AD), which clearly and responsibly addressed the events in As-Suwayda Governorate, including the shedding of innocent blood and painful attacks.

The Syrian Future Movement expresses its full support for the religious rulings, national positions, and unifying principles contained in the fatwa. It affirms that these sincere religious authorities constitute a safety valve for the Syrian people, with all their components, and express the living conscience of the nation in the face of sedition, extremism, sectarian mobilization, and moral collapse.

The Syrian Future Movement affirms that its position is consistent with the fatwa’s categorical prohibition of treason and its categorical rejection of seeking help from the treacherous Zionist enemy, considering it a major betrayal unacceptable by Sharia, nationalism, and custom.

The Syrian Future Movement strongly supports the fatwa’s prohibition of the shedding of the blood of children, women, and civilians at all times, especially during the sacred months. This is a fixed principle from which no one is exempt.

The Syrian Future Movement reiterates its call for the necessity of distinguishing between aggressors and those who are innocent, and for not expanding the circle of accusations based on sectarian or regional grounds, in accordance with the Almighty’s words: “And no bearer of burdens shall bear the burden of another.”

The Syrian Future Movement supports the fatwa’s imposition of the state’s legal responsibility to protect all citizens without discrimination, deter aggressors, provide relief to those affected, and urgently intervene to end the causes of strife.

The Syrian Future Movement embraces the fatwa’s warning against the danger of sectarian incitement, stresses the importance of verifying news and not being swept away by rumors, and holds the media accountable for their national, ethical, and professional responsibilities.

The Syrian Future Movement appreciates the fatwa’s emphasis on the legitimacy of defending oneself, one’s honor, and one’s property, supporting the oppressed, and standing with all those whose rights have been violated, within a comprehensive moral and national framework.

The Syrian Future Movement considers this fatwa to be an advanced step toward building a comprehensive national religious discourse that confronts sedition, promotes the values of justice and citizenship, and establishes a legitimate authority that defends civil peace and human dignity throughout Syria.
