The Syrian Future Movement joins the world in commemorating World Population Day, July 11, amidst the highly complex demographic reality facing post-authoritarian Syria, as the country begins to chart the course of a new state based on rights, institutions, and pluralism.
The Syrian Future Movement affirms that this year’s United Nations theme, “Empowering young people to form the families they desire in a just and hopeful world,” aligns with the requirements of the transitional phase Syria is experiencing and reflects the urgent need to place people at the heart of the state-building project. We have presented our vision on youth empowerment in a paper published on our official website entitled “Youth in Syria.”
The Syrian Future Movement calls for the inclusion of population issues within the reform agenda by adopting a comprehensive national demographic vision that addresses the effects of displacement and migration and reaffirms the role of youth in shaping the country’s future through their active participation in political, economic, and social life.
The Syrian Future Movement urges the reformulation of legislation to guarantee reproductive rights, provide educational, employment, and housing opportunities, and achieve spatial justice between governorates. This will ensure the formation of stable and secure families that contribute to rebuilding the national fabric and creating a balanced society.
The Syrian Future Movement calls on the United Nations and international organizations to expand their support for population programs in Syria, based on a just development approach that keeps pace with the state’s recovery and respects the unique characteristics of the changing Syrian society.
On this International Day, the Syrian Future Movement renews its commitment to a reform vision that places Syrians at the forefront of development priorities and believes that achieving demographic justice is the cornerstone of a future Syria.
