Suspension of U.S. Funding for the Syrian Civil Defense Organization “White Helmets”

The Syrian Future Movement is deeply concerned about the U.S. administration’s decision to halt most of its funding for the Syrian Civil Defense organization, known as the “White Helmets.” This organization has played a pivotal role in saving lives and responding to the humanitarian disasters caused by the war in Syria.

The Syrian Future Movement views this decision as a major challenge to the continued operation of the organization, which has become a symbol of humanity and resilience in the face of tragedy.

The Syrian Future Movement affirms that supporting the “White Helmets” is not solely the responsibility of one international entity but, first and foremost, a national responsibility. From this perspective, we call for the following steps to ensure the organization’s sustainability and enhance its role in serving the Syrian people:

1. Integrating the Syrian Civil Defense into the structure of the new Syrian state while preserving its professional independence to ensure the continuity of its work and the expansion of its services across all Syrian regions.
2. Allocating an independent national budget to support the organization and establishing a national fund dedicated to financing the “White Helmets,” relying on donations from Syrians inside and outside the country. The Syrian people, who have always demonstrated solidarity and generosity, can provide the necessary support to overcome this challenge beyond any external funding.
3. Building new partnerships with international organizations and friendly governments** to support the “White Helmets” and ensure the continuity of their humanitarian projects.
4. Launching national and international awareness campaigns to inform the world about the importance of the “White Helmets” and their humanitarian role, mobilizing public and international support for their continued operations.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that supporting the “White Helmets” is not just a humanitarian obligation but an integral part of the project to build a new Syria based on the values of solidarity, justice, and humanity. The continuation of this organization’s work sends a message to the world that the Syrian people are capable of overcoming challenges and building a better future despite all difficulties.
