The car bomb attack in the Hejaz area, the heart of Damascus

The Syrian Future Movement follows with deep sorrow and condemnation the cowardly terrorist bombing that targeted a café near the Palace of Justice in the Hejaz district of central Damascus on Thursday, July 2, 2026. This treacherous attack resulted in the martyrdom of nine civilians and injuries to 22 others, in a painful scene that reaffirms that terrorism makes no distinction among its victims, and that targeting civilians in their gathering places is a war crime by all standards.

The Syrian Future Movement condemns in the strongest terms this terrorist bombing that targeted innocent civilians and holds the relevant authorities responsible for immediately identifying the perpetrators and bringing them to justice.

The Syrian Future Movement points out that targeting a café crowded with civilians in the Hejaz district, specifically near the Palace of Justice, is a cowardly criminal act aimed at undermining the security and stability that we all strive to establish.

The Syrian Future Movement holds the security and judicial authorities doubly responsible for uncovering the circumstances of this heinous crime and bringing the perpetrators, planners, and supporters to justice so that they receive their just punishment.

We note that the Syrian Ministry of Justice described the attack as a “cowardly crime that contradicts all human and moral values,” affirming that “these criminal acts will not succeed in undermining security and stability,” a position we appreciate and support.

The Syrian Future Movement expresses its deepest condolences to the families of the martyrs and wishes a speedy recovery to the wounded and injured.

It also highly values the widespread Arab and international condemnations that followed this bombing, which affirm the international community’s solidarity with Syria in confronting the scourge of terrorism.

The foreign ministries of Jordan, Egypt, Qatar, and Iraq condemned this terrorist attack, affirming their rejection of violence and terrorism and their solidarity with Syria.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres also expressed his condolences, stressing the need to identify those responsible for the bombing and bring them to justice. The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attack, describing it as a “treacherous terrorist act.”

We in the Syrian Future Movement see this international consensus as a clear message that the world stands with Syria in its war against terrorism.

The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes that terrorism is an enemy of all humanity, and that targeting civilians is a crime that cannot be justified under any pretext.

The Syrian Future Movement warns against attempts by some parties to exploit this heinous crime to incite sectarian strife, undermine the state’s ability to maintain security, or weaken national unity.

We note that the broad Arab and international solidarity with Syria demonstrates that the world understands that terrorism has no homeland and that combating it requires comprehensive international cooperation.

Based on our national responsibility, the Syrian Future Movement recommends the following:

  1. A swift and transparent investigation: The investigation into the circumstances of this bombing must be conducted quickly and transparently, with its results made public. The perpetrators must be brought to a fair and public trial to deter anyone who might contemplate harming the country’s security.
  2. Strengthening security and intelligence cooperation: We must intensify security and intelligence coordination with brotherly and friendly nations to pursue dormant terrorist cells, dismantle their networks, and cut off their sources of funding.
  3. Supporting security and judicial institutions: Providing the necessary support to security and judicial bodies to enable them to fulfill their duty of protecting citizens and developing their capabilities in combating terrorism and organized crime.
  4. Enhancing public awareness: Launching national awareness campaigns to strengthen the role of society in confronting terrorism, encouraging citizens to report any suspicious activity, and rejecting hate speech and extremism that fuel such criminal acts.

The Syrian Future Movement affirms that terrorism will only increase the Syrian people’s determination to build their new state based on law, justice, and security.

It highly values the position of the Syrian government and the judicial and security institutions in confronting this crime and commends the solidarity of brothers and friends in the Arab world and the international community.

We also believe that the new Syria, which is today taking steady steps toward recovery and reconstruction, will remain steadfast in the face of all attempts to undermine its security and stability.
