“Echo of Resilience” project in the northern Aleppo countryside

The Syrian Future Movement is following with great interest and appreciation the launch by the Aleppo Governorate, in cooperation with the Ministry of Emergency Situations and Disaster Management, of the “Echo of Resilience” project in the towns and villages of northern Aleppo countryside on Thursday, July 2, 2026.

This vital project aims to remove earthen berms and fill trenches left over from years of war, with a total length estimated at approximately 200 kilometers. This will facilitate the movement of residents, enable farmers to access their lands, support the return of agricultural and service activities, and restore normalcy to the affected areas.

The Syrian Future Movement commends this practical step, which aims to remove the physical obstacles that have for years hindered the movement of citizens and the return of normal life to northern Aleppo countryside.

We see this project as a manifestation of the Syrian government’s commitment to addressing the repercussions of the war and a response to the urgent needs of citizens who have suffered from the effects of the berms and trenches that isolated entire villages and towns from one another.

The Syrian Future Movement highly values the cooperation between the Aleppo Governorate and the Ministry of Emergency Situations, which demonstrates institutional integration in addressing service and humanitarian issues and strengthens confidence in the state’s ability to overcome the challenges of this phase.

The Syrian Future Movement notes that the project is not limited to providing services, but extends to supporting agricultural activity, a vital sector upon which thousands of families in the northern Aleppo countryside depend.

Removing the earthworks and trenches enables farmers to access their lands and facilitates the movement of crops and agricultural supplies, thus contributing to revitalizing the local economy and improving livelihoods.

It is also worth mentioning that this project is part of broader efforts undertaken by the state, which also included the Ministry of Emergency Situations completing the filling and leveling of more than 900 kilometers of trenches and earthworks in Idlib Governorate, in implementation of Decree No. 59 of 2026. This decree aims to prepare infrastructure in affected areas, support stability, and enhance the sustainability of agricultural investment.

The Syrian Future Movement reiterates its unwavering support for the rehabilitation of infrastructure and the strengthening of stability in affected areas, as published on its official website. These positions include:

  • The statement on “Repairing Bridges and Developing Vital Roads in Syria” (dated June 3, 2026), which commended the government’s urgent plan to rehabilitate bridges and vital roads, and emphasized the need for transparent implementation mechanisms and regular monitoring to ensure the projects’ success.
  • The statement on “Launching the Comprehensive Plan to Rehabilitate Central Roads and Connect the Governorates” (dated June 29, 2026), which welcomed the ambitious plan to develop the land transport network, considering it a fundamental step towards achieving balanced development and strengthening national cohesion.
  • The study “Reconstruction Priorities in Syria” (dated December 19, 2024), which affirmed that rehabilitating infrastructure in affected areas is a prerequisite for the return of displaced persons and the achievement of stability and sustainable development.

The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes that the true success of these projects is not measured solely by the scale of the work completed, but rather by their ability to achieve a tangible impact on citizens’ lives and the long-term sustainability of that impact.

Based on its national responsibility, the Syrian Future Movement recommends the following:

  • Ensuring the continuity of the work to remove earth mounds and fill trenches in the northern Aleppo countryside, and expanding the project to include all areas still suffering from the effects of the war, while establishing clear and binding timelines for completing the remaining work.
  • Linking the earth mound removal projects to comprehensive development plans for the beneficiary areas, including improving basic services (water, electricity, and sanitation), providing job opportunities, and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, to ensure that removing physical obstacles is the beginning of a comprehensive development renaissance.
  • Involving the local community in monitoring the project’s implementation, and forming community committees to oversee the quality of the work, ensure transparency, and prevent any corruption or negligence, following successful examples from other regions.
  • The Syrian Future Movement is committed to documenting and regularly publishing the achievements of the “Echo of Resilience” project to inform the public of progress, strengthen citizens’ confidence in the state’s ability to fulfill its promises, and encourage similar efforts in other governorates. The Movement reiterates its welcome of the “Echo of Resilience” project and commends the efforts of the Aleppo Governorate and the Ministry of Emergency Situations in rehabilitating affected areas.

It also emphasizes that removing the effects of war is a restoration of life and dignity, paving the way for the return of hope to the hearts of Syrians.

We believe that the Syrian government is called upon to continue this path and expand the scope of these projects to include all areas still suffering under the legacy of war, as a step towards building a new Syria where security, stability, and prosperity return to every inch of its land.

The Syrian Future Movement will remain a supporter, critic, and monitor of this path, striving to build a new Syria on the foundations of sustainable development and social justice.
