In an atmosphere imbued with national responsibility and a commitment to unity, the city of Maaret al-Numan hosted a comprehensive national meeting yesterday, Wednesday, Dhul-Hijjah 3, 1447 AH (corresponding to June 17, 2026), the first of its kind. The meeting brought together a distinguished group of prominent military and civilian leaders and influential figures from the region.
The meeting was held at the Maaret al-Numan District Administration building, chaired by Mr. Kifah Jaafar, and attended by Dr. Firas al-Jundi, a member of parliament representing the region, Brigadier General Haitham al-Afisi, Colonel Ahmed al-Saoud, and a number of other leaders and dignitaries from the city.
The Syrian Future Movement was represented at the meeting by Mr. Jumaa Muhammad Lahib, Director of the Research and Studies Department at the Scientific Office of the Syrian Future Movement.
This auspicious meeting, characterized by a spirit of cordiality, openness, and a sincere desire to turn a new page, represents a strategic step towards prioritizing the best interests of the city and its people, and improving its service and social conditions.
In this context, the Syrian Future Movement issues this statement affirming its principles and its absolute support for these efforts:
The Syrian Future Movement believes that this fraternal meeting represents a historic turning point and a model to be emulated in strengthening civil peace. It demonstrates the awareness of the leaders of Maaret al-Numan and their ability to overcome the challenges of the past and move the region towards a new phase of stability and institutional development.
The Syrian Future Movement believes that holding the meeting in the regional administration building, with the presence of these prominent figures, reflects the administrative and political maturity of the Syrian community forces during the current transitional phase. It also confirms that our local institutions are the legitimate and unifying framework for organizing internal affairs and safeguarding the interests of citizens.
The Syrian Future Movement believes that convening around a single dialogue table between military and civilian leaders is the fundamental guarantee for maintaining security and bridging the divide. True strength lies in unity of purpose and the integration of honorable armed resistance with sound civilian governance to protect the gains of our people in Maaret al-Numan, throughout northern Syria, and across all of Syrian territory.
The Syrian Future Movement views this event as a powerful practical application of the values we advocate, namely combating hatred and discord. It affirms that the language of amity and tolerance that prevailed at the meeting is the bedrock upon which all attempts to sow division and discord among the people of our nation will shatter.
The Syrian Future Movement is fully committed to dedicating all its political, media, and awareness-raising resources to serving the outcomes of this meeting and to continuing to support and accompany all efforts aimed at reconciliation, development, and community empowerment.
The Syrian Future Movement calls for the adoption of the following recommendations to build upon this achievement:
- The formation of a “Sustainable Coordination Council” emanating from this meeting, to ensure ongoing communication between leaders and the regular monitoring of service and security matters in the city.
- We recommend highlighting this event as a “national success story” across all official platforms and news outlets to encourage other Syrian regions and cities to follow Maaret al-Numan’s example in reconciliation initiatives and fostering unity.
The economic and civil organizations accompanying this meeting are called upon to immediately begin formulating joint development plans to restore the infrastructure and encourage the return and resettlement of the residents.
