World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day

The Syrian Future Movement affirms that May 8th, the day the world commemorates the birth of Henry Dunant as World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, is an international occasion to solidify the values of humanity, impartiality, neutrality, and independence, which are vital for saving humanity in the darkest of conflicts and disasters.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that linking Syria to the humanitarian values of the international community is an urgent necessity for reintegrating the Syrian state into the global system. Syrians, who have endured the bitterness of conflict for years, are the most deserving of adopting these principles, which guarantee the preservation of human dignity and ensure that aid reaches those who need it without politicization or discrimination.

The Syrian Future Movement reviews with grave concern the recent international reports issued by UN organizations for 2025/2026, which indicate that more than 16.7 million Syrians remain in dire need of humanitarian assistance, with food insecurity rates reaching record levels, affecting 12.9 million people.

We believe these figures place a national and moral responsibility on all of us to support the volunteer staff of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent and provide them with legal and on-the-ground protection.

The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes the necessity of adopting a comprehensive national vision that takes into account the conditions of the transitional phase we aspire to. The Syrian Future Movement considers “human security” to be the cornerstone of any sustainable political stability.

We believe that good governance and transparency in relief work are the first steps toward building trust with international donors and ensuring Syria’s transition from the “emergency relief” phase to the “early recovery and sustainable development” phase.

The Syrian Future Movement envisions a future Syria where national humanitarian institutions are active partners in reconstruction, not merely channels for distributing aid.

We pledge to our people, both inside Syria and in the diaspora, that the Syrian Future Movement will remain a voice calling for the application of international humanitarian law, guaranteeing the freedom of volunteer work, and honoring the sacrifices of the volunteers who lost their lives in the service of others.

May God have mercy on the souls of the martyrs of humanitarian work.
