Happy Easter 2026

The Syrian Future Movement congratulates the Syrian people of all Christian denominations on the occasion of Easter, which falls on Sunday, April 12, 2026, according to both the Western and Eastern calendars. The Movement recalls the meanings of sacrifice and resurrection embodied in the Syrian people’s will to rise from the rubble of war and build a new dawn worthy of their dignity.

The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes the importance of protecting the authentic Christian presence in Syria, especially given recent reports (March 2026) indicating a sharp decline in the number of Christians to approximately 300,000 to 400,000 (a decrease exceeding 80% over the last decade). This makes preserving those who remain and strengthening their resilience in their homeland a paramount national priority that transcends mere slogans and requires effective policies.

The Syrian Future Movement affirms that during this transitional phase (2025-2030), we must keep in mind the difficult and painful lessons learned, including the recent events in Al-Suqaylabiyah (March 2026), which witnessed sectarian tensions followed by attacks and organized media disinformation campaigns. We emphasize that the wisdom shown by local communities in containing that crisis is what prevented a major conflagration that nearly derailed efforts to achieve stability.

The Syrian Future Movement views the cancellation of celebrations and music by some churches (such as those in Damascus) on Palm Sunday in solidarity with those affected by the events in the northwest as a wake-up call for all of us to provide a safe environment that guarantees freedom of worship and protects the dignity of all under the umbrella of citizenship, far removed from policies of coercion or sectarian incitement.

The Syrian Future Movement pledges to work towards transforming the findings of human rights reports documenting violations and arbitrary arrests during the first quarter of 2026 into reform programs that guarantee the recurrence of the tragedies of displacement and marginalization. The Syria of the future will either belong to all, with genuine constitutional guarantees, or it will not recover from its current predicament.

Happy Easter to all Syrians, and long live our beloved homeland with all its people.
