Eid al-Fitr Mubarak

The Syrian Future Movement extends its sincerest congratulations to the Syrian people in all their diversity, and to Muslims in Syria and around the world, on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, the blessed festival of joy, mercy, and solidarity that concludes the holy month of Ramadan and brings with it hopes for strengthening social stability and a shared national spirit.

The Syrian Future Movement affirms that Eid al-Fitr represents an occasion to deepen national unity and reaffirm that Syria is a shared homeland for all its citizens, united by a common destiny, far removed from discrimination or sectarian or ethnic polarization.

The Syrian Future Movement appreciates the government’s efforts in declaring Eid a full public holiday and in issuing Presidential Decree No. (67) of 2026, which stipulates a 50% increase to salaries and wages in the public and mixed sectors (effective May 1, 2026), as a positive step towards improving living conditions. This has also enabled many to perform Eid prayers in mosques and public squares, visit family, and exchange greetings in Damascus and other regions, reflecting some progress in social stability.

The Syrian Future Movement hopes that this holiday will become a genuine impetus for strengthening peaceful coexistence and solidarity among all segments of the population, while avoiding any political or sectarian exploitation that threatens the nascent unity, and focusing on building a state of equal citizenship.

The Syrian Future Movement expresses its deep regret and condemnation of the tragic incidents that marred the celebrations, including:

  • The death of a young woman and injuries to two (or more) children when a metal beam collapsed from a ride at the “Blue Beach” amusement park in Latakia on the first day of the holiday (March 20, 2026). This incident sparked widespread anger and legitimate concerns about the safety and supervision of public recreational facilities.
  • The injury of approximately 20 people (some reports indicate more) in the cities of Hasakah, Qamishli, and Amuda as a result of indiscriminate gunfire during the celebrations. These incidents reveal the continued security vacuum and the proliferation of unlicensed weapons.

We believe these incidents highlight a clear deficiency in preventive and regulatory measures, and underscore the urgent need for:

  • Immediate, transparent, and independent investigations into each incident, with accountability for those responsible for negligence.
  • Accelerating campaigns to collect unlicensed weapons and strictly and equally enforcing the rule of law in all areas.
  • Strengthening safety standards in public and recreational spaces, and intensifying security measures during major events.

The Syrian Future Movement affirms its pride in Syria’s cultural, religious, and social diversity as a source of strength and resilience. It believes that preserving this diversity requires a collective commitment to the principles of equal citizenship, the rule of law, and building strong civil state institutions that guarantee rights without exclusion, along with the gradual and transparent integration of security forces and agencies within a unified national framework.

The Syrian Future Movement calls on the transitional government to learn from these lessons to accelerate security and economic reforms, so that symbolic joy translates into genuine improved living conditions, and Syria regains its role as a beacon of tolerance and civilization.

May our Syrian people be well every year, and may this blessed Eid al-Fitr bring us together in the hope of a safe and prosperous homeland that everyone deserves.
