The Syrian Future Movement has decided to suspend the membership application of Syrian citizen Shifa Sawan (number 24/T), born in Saudi Arabia in 1984. Sawan had previously submitted her application to the organizational office. She had participated in several activities, events, and public meetings in the past. The decision to suspend her membership was taken as an internal organizational measure aimed at preserving the existing institutional cohesion and adhering to the shared political vision of the Syrian Future Movement during this sensitive period in Syria’s history.
The decision followed a series of repeated public statements by Ms. Sawan, which included direct and sharp criticism of aspects of the current transitional administration’s performance, as well as a number of accusations leveled against official bodies and individuals holding positions in the new government led by President Ahmed al-Sharaa.
The Syrian Future Movement’s organizational office considered these statements a clear violation of the movement’s official stance, issuing several warnings and admonitions. It clarified that such statements contradict the movement’s full support for the transitional process, aimed at strengthening national stability and successfully building a national civil state. The office also rejected any form of escalation or public questioning that could hinder progress during this phase.
We in the Syrian Future Movement have repeatedly advised them to confine their criticisms and accusations to official legal channels, away from social media, to preserve unity during this critical juncture in Syria’s contemporary history. We have emphasized the necessity of adhering to the Syrian Future Movement’s general framework and avoiding statements that could be interpreted as incitement or contradict the collective vision.
From the outset, the Syrian Future Movement has been committed to containing disagreements and providing opportunities for correction, which has delayed any immediate organizational action.
Therefore, based on the internal regulations of the Syrian Future Movement, the recommendation of its organizational office, and the president’s authority, it has been decided to suspend the membership of Ms. Shifa Sawan pending a review of her case, the closure of all open files related to her statements, and her full return to the inclusive and comprehensive approach and discourse of the Syrian Future Movement.
The Syrian Future Movement affirms that this measure does not infringe upon any member’s right to freedom of expression. We respect intellectual diversity and differing opinions, and we do not impose any form of guardianship on our members. Furthermore, the Syrian Future Movement does not bear responsibility for the individual and unofficial positions and statements of its members.
However, as a political entity whose members are united by a realistic and service-oriented national vision, the Syrian Future Movement reserves the right to take the necessary disciplinary measures against anyone who oversteps the established framework outlined in its internal regulations.
We urge her to conduct a thorough review of her situation, rectify her legal and social standing, and return as an active and contributing member of the Syrian Future Movement.
With this approach, we in the Syrian Future Movement highlight our nature as a diverse group that accepts differences within the limits of commitment to the higher national goals, and we seek to be an active partner in the success of the transitional phase with the presence of opposing and critical viewpoints, thus rejecting any hostility, antagonism, or confrontation with the new era in its path towards reconstruction, justice, and stability.
