A statement from the Scientific Office/Research and Studies Department of the Syrian Future Movement at the central ceremony commemorating the first anniversary of the Syrian Revolution’s victory
Peace, mercy, and blessings of God be upon you.
I began the year 2022 with the path established by the Syrian Future Movement’s Research and Studies Department within the Scientific Office. The vision was forward-looking and ambitious: there was a need to build a political awareness based on intellect and knowledge rather than instinct, based on sound reasoning rather than randomness, based on a future-oriented perspective rather than getting lost in the complexities of the present.
It is true that we are not Brookings, Carnegie, CSIS, Chatham House, or Bruegel… but we are children of the cause, immersed in its details, the cause that united us with the cry of 2011, causing our political awareness to blossom after being forbidden from understanding politics, society, and economics.
The Syrian Future Movement was able to attract academics, both men and women, without requiring prior experience. What experience could young people have gained from awakening to the earthquake of a revolution unlike any before? We built the Research Department brick by brick, through voluntary dedication and the invaluable support of the Syrian Future Movement’s leadership, utilizing all available resources. The Research Department became the brains of the movement and the architect of its vision. We were present in every office, proposing and refining statements, whether in the form of articles, studies, or research papers. We served as the link between the active members in the movement’s offices and the theorists in the Scientific Office, soaring with open-minded young minds that connect modern scientific theories to the Syrian reality.
We presented a paper, study, or research paper for every aspect and turning point Syria has experienced. We do not claim perfection, but we do claim diligence, originality, and independence from foreign funding, intelligence agendas, and regional power blocs.
Today, we are pleased to announce our first publication, which will be printed and distributed soon: The Syrian Political Calendar. This comprehensive work documents all political events from the establishment of the first Syrian state in 1918 to the present day, making it the first Syrian work to chronicle political events within annual historical periods.
Brothers and sisters, despite the neglect our renowned research centers face from decision-makers, some of our papers have managed to reach them. For example, our paper on the impossibility of separating Bashar al-Assad from the Iranian axis was presented to the key players.
Today, having moved from a phase where we were all revolutionary players dismantling the existing political system, to a transitional phase where our generation faces two realities:
First, preserving the gains of our people’s sacrifices and the sacrifices of our martyrs by ensuring we don’t lose them to a failed state and a divided map.
Second, witnessing the building of the new Syrian state, brick by brick.
As is our custom, not presenting research recommendations, I conclude with gratitude, and my final thanks are twofold: thanks from all of us for the sacrifices of our people that have allowed us to gather and celebrate the one-year anniversary of the end of the Assad regime.
And the greatest thanks to God Almighty, in every language of the hearts of believers, for bestowing upon us the blessing of Damascus.
