Forming a committee to review the procedures of the decree concerning Marotta and Basilia City

The Syrian Future Movement welcomes the decision issued by the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic on December 5, 2025, to form a specialized committee to study and review the procedures implemented in the legislative decree concerning the Marota City and Basilia City areas in Damascus.

The Syrian Future Movement believes this decision comes at a critical time, reflecting a response to the demands of the affected residents who have suffered for years from the consequences of previous policies that led to forced displacement and the loss of property rights without fair compensation.

The Syrian Future Movement stands with the residents in their legitimate demands, emphasizing the necessity for this committee to be a genuine instrument for achieving justice for those affected. This requires an objective review of all previous procedures and the submission of proposals that guarantee fair compensation in accordance with free market standards, while preserving the social fabric and urban heritage of Damascus.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that the success of this committee depends on its complete independence, the participation of genuine representatives of the residents and civil society, and the consultation of independent experts to ensure transparency. We also call for an extension of the deadline, if necessary, to allow for a comprehensive study and avoid any haste that could hinder the achievement of justice.

The Syrian Future Movement believes this measure represents an opportunity to strengthen confidence in transitional institutions and contributes to building a future vision for Syria based on sustainable development, where cities become places of collective prosperity, not sectarian investment. For our part, we will closely monitor the committee’s work and offer our constructive suggestions to support the success of the transitional phase, towards a strong and unified Syria that guarantees the rights of all and builds a prosperous future for its people.
