The Syrian Future Movement has followed with great concern the report published on December 5, 2025, in a joint edition by Reuters and The Economist, concerning attempts by a network of figures from the remnants of the former regime to incite an armed rebellion on the Syrian coast, recruit thousands of fighters, and reignite sectarian strife during what should be a period of building a new, unified nation.
The Syrian Future Movement condemns in the strongest terms any attempt to drag the country into sectarian or regional conflicts, or to turn back the clock. The Syrian people have made immense sacrifices to rid themselves of the regime of tyranny and corruption, and they will not allow anyone, regardless of their former position or current wealth, to return them to the cycle of violence and division.
The Syrian Future Movement commends the rejection by our people on the Syrian coast, in all their diversity, of these dubious calls. We consider this rejection a living testament to their profound national awareness and to the fact that the coast is an integral part of the unified Syrian fabric.
The Syrian Future Movement reminds everyone that the transitional phase Syria is undergoing is sensitive and critical, and that any misstep in addressing grievances or managing security could be exploited by enemies of stability. Therefore, we call on the transitional government to expedite the following:
- The formation of a supreme national committee to address the grievances of the coastal residents, comprising trusted national figures from all regions and communities.
- The return of arbitrarily confiscated properties to their rightful owners through transparent and fair judicial procedures.
- The adoption of a precise security policy that focuses on the leaders actually involved and avoids any collective actions that could be exploited along sectarian lines.
The Syrian Future Movement affirms that Syria’s future will only be built on the foundation of equal justice for every citizen, from the far east to the far west, and from the far north to our most beautiful coastlines. There is no place in the new Syria for those who bear arms against the people, nor for those who attempt to exploit the suffering of Syrians for personal or factional gain.
The Syrian Future Movement calls upon all active national forces—youth, women, intellectuals, religious figures, and economic actors—to rally around the project of a unified, pluralistic, civil state, and to transform this failed attempt into an opportunity to strengthen trust among all components of the Syrian people, rather than a pretext for division.
The Syrian Future Movement believes that the Syria we envision for our children is one where the people of Latakia, Deir ez-Zor, Aleppo, Suwaida, and all other governorates feel they belong to one nation, united by shared life, equal dignity, and a bright future.
