The Family Affairs Office of the Syrian Future Movement is following with grave concern the recent reports of children being the primary beggars in Aleppo Governorate. The Anti-Begging Committee reported apprehending 150 cases in the city in a single day (Tuesday, December 16, 2025), according to its periodic report for the first half of the month, with children clearly outnumbering those observed. This phenomenon, which is worsening daily in various Syrian cities, reflects the depth of the social and economic challenges facing Syrian families and threatens the future of our generations, especially children who are deprived of education and proper care and are exposed to exploitation and danger.
Based on its responsibility to protect the Syrian family as the fundamental unit of society, the Syrian Future Movement welcomes the efforts of the relevant authorities in combating this phenomenon through field campaigns and care in specialized centers. It emphasizes the necessity for these efforts to be part of a comprehensive national policy that focuses on prevention and rehabilitation, not merely on ad hoc security measures.
In this context, the Syrian Future Movement reiterates its firm position, as expressed in its official statement entitled “Regarding the Homs Governorate’s Decision to Address the Phenomenon of Begging,” issued on June 27, 2025, and published on its official website. The statement supported the field measures implemented in Homs at that time, while emphasizing the importance of integrating them into a national framework that includes programs to support impoverished families, vocational training, and free education for children. This framework aims to guarantee the dignity of the Syrian people and prevent begging from becoming an organized phenomenon that exploits children and women.
The Syrian Future Movement also refers to the article published on its official website entitled “Social Measures to Address the Phenomenon of Begging in Syria,” dated September 23, 2025, which affirmed the same principles, including strengthening coordination between the government and civil society and replicating successful initiatives such as those implemented in Aleppo.
The Syrian Future Movement calls upon the relevant government agencies to:
- Intensify family support programs and vocational training for parents to prevent children from engaging in begging.
- Strengthen community awareness against the organized exploitation of children and support care centers with specialized staff.
- Develop long-term plans that link combating begging with economic and educational development programs, to ensure a decent future for Syrian families.
