World Toilet Day

The Syrian Future Movement is pleased to announce, on the occasion of World Toilet Day, November 19, its affirmation that hygiene and sanitation are fundamental pillars of human dignity, public health, and sustainable development in Syria.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that this international day reminds us that every person’s right to access safe sanitation facilities is an integral part of human dignity and represents a social and moral obligation inspired by the teachings of our Islamic and Christian faiths, and by the values of Syria’s rich culture, which has always considered hygiene and health cornerstones of a dignified life.

In Islam, teachings emphasize cleanliness as a part of faith, and in Christianity, caring for others and preserving their health is considered an act of mercy and good deeds.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that during this transitional phase in Syria, as the state and society are being rebuilt after years of conflict, World Toilet Day presents an opportunity to re-evaluate sanitation facilities. This re-evaluation should move beyond mere restoration or maintenance to encompass the design of modern, environmentally friendly, and safe facilities for all citizens, including children, women, and the elderly. We consider this forward-looking vision essential for promoting public health, strengthening the social fabric, and enabling future generations to live in a dignified and safe environment.

The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes that this day highlights the importance of raising awareness within Syrian society about the dimensions of sanitation related to public health, the environment, education, and gender equality.

The Syrian Future Movement affirms that sanitation facilities are a fundamental human right, and investing in them is an investment in Syria’s civilized future and a step towards building a just and prosperous state.

We in the Syrian Future Movement stress the necessity of integrated national policies between the government, civil society, and the private sector to rehabilitate sanitation facilities and ensure their accessibility to all citizens in every governorate, city, and village. This must be done in accordance with global standards for the Sustainable Development Goals and to protect the health of every child, woman, and man in Syria. The Syrian Future Movement calls upon all Syrians to actively participate in awareness campaigns, community initiatives, and innovative, sustainable solutions for sanitation facilities, ensuring that Syria becomes a model of civilization, dignity, and hygiene, reflecting its spiritual and cultural values.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that World Toilet Day is an opportunity to build a healthy, civilized, cohesive, and developed society, affirming Syria’s commitment to its human, religious, and cultural values, and laying the foundation for a sustainable future for generations to come.
