The Syrian Future Movement views the announcement by the National Commission of Inquiry into the events on the Syrian coast regarding the commencement of the first public hearings for those accused of committing violations and crimes on the Syrian coast since March 6, 2025, as a fundamental step towards establishing the rule of law and ending impunity in the new Syria.
The Syrian Future Movement also believes that opening the courts to local and international media and conducting the hearings transparently sends a clear message that the judicial system is the sole arbiter in holding perpetrators of violations accountable, regardless of the affiliation of the perpetrator or the victim, and affirms the new state’s commitment to human rights and justice.
The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes the following principles:
- That the trials be fair and independent, with full guarantees of all rights of defense in accordance with international standards.
- That accountability include all those proven to be involved in the crimes, without exception or immunity for any party.
- That the public be provided with regular and accurate updates on the proceedings and outcomes of the hearings, considering transparency the cornerstone of building trust among Syrians.
- The trials should be accompanied by parallel procedures to provide material and moral redress to the victims and their families, and to restore their stolen rights and property.
The Syrian Future Movement views these trials as a foundational step towards building a state of law and institutions that guarantee the protection of every Syrian citizen, regardless of their sect, region, or political affiliation, and establish a path for justice and national reconciliation.
The Syrian Future Movement calls on all Syrians to follow these sessions, support the independent judiciary, and preserve national unity, because justice is the fundamental guarantee of peace and stability, and represents the best path towards a safe, just, and prosperous Syria.
