International Day of the Girl Child

On this day, October 11, which the United Nations has designated as the International Day of the Girl Child since 2012, the Syrian Future Movement renews its unwavering commitment to the rights of Syrian girls and their pivotal role in building a new, free, and just Syria.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that Syrian girls, like all our people, have suffered from long years of oppression, discrimination, and marginalization, exacerbated during the war. Girls have been subjected to grave violations, from displacement and deprivation of education to forced marriage and exploitation.

Today, as we steadily move toward a transitional phase following the fall of the former regime, we believe that empowering Syrian girls means empowering the entire nation.

The Syrian Future Movement declares that among our most important goals, which converge with the principles of this day, are:

  • Ensuring girls’ right to education, healthcare, and legal protection, without discrimination or exclusion.
  • Combating underage marriage and raising community awareness of its risks to families and society.
  • Empowering girls economically and socially through training, support, and participation in public life.
  • Highlighting the success stories of Syrian girls who have defied adversity and proven their ability to lead and innovate.

The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes that empowering girls does not mean alienation or clashing with religious and social values. Rather, it is a restoration of the true spirit of religion, which honored women and elevated their status in knowledge, leadership, and position. We draw from our culture, not from its antagonism. We believe that Syrian society, with its diversity and depth, is capable of embracing positive change that preserves the dignity of all.

The Syrian Future Movement calls on all national forces, civil society, and educational and religious institutions to make this day a starting point for a national dialogue on girls’ rights and to adopt practical policies that do justice to them and involve them in shaping Syria’s future.
