The 62nd Damascus International Fair kicks off

The Syrian Future Movement is closely following the launch of the 62nd Damascus International Fair, which returns after a six-year hiatus due to the security and economic conditions Syria has endured.

We, in the Syrian Future Movement, see this event as a positive step that reflects the Syrian people’s will to recover and open up to the world. This is particularly true with the participation of approximately 800 local and international companies, and the signing of investment agreements worth up to $14 billion in vital sectors such as infrastructure and energy. We also believe that these partnerships, which include countries such as Turkey and Saudi Arabia, represent a real opportunity for reconstruction and job creation, enhancing economic stability and restoring Syria to its regional position as a commercial and cultural center.

The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes the need for this fair to be part of a comprehensive and balanced process for Syrian advancement, free from any form of superficial propaganda or political exploitation. We also share the concerns expressed by some observers about the lack of transparency in the implementation of the agreements and the ongoing security tensions that could hinder internal and external confidence. The Syrian economy continues to suffer from the legacy of previous tyranny, including corruption and internal conflicts. This makes it essential that such events be linked to international monitoring mechanisms and the participation of all Syrian stakeholders, including civil society, to ensure a fair distribution of benefits to all Syrians.

The Syrian Future Movement calls on the transitional government to transform this exhibition from a symbolic event into a real engine of change by committing to transitional justice, resolving internal conflicts, and enhancing transparency in investments. We also emphasize the importance of involving Syrians in the diaspora and refugees in such initiatives, so that the exhibition can serve as a gateway to a safe and dignified return. We will remain committed to supporting any effort that serves the interests of the Syrian people, while remaining vigilant against any attempts to manipulate the economy for political purposes.
