Syrian-Iraqi agreement to rehabilitate the Kirkuk-Banias pipeline

In light of recent developments in the regional arena, and within the context of the announced agreement between the Syrian and Iraqi governments to rehabilitate the Kirkuk-Banias oil pipeline,

The Syrian Future Movement expresses its position on this event as follows:

  1. We emphasize the importance of regional cooperation based on mutual interests and mutual respect for national sovereignty. We view this agreement as an opportunity to redefine relations between neighboring countries on a fair economic basis, free from the logic of hegemony or subordination.
  2. We warn against turning this project into a tool to strengthen corruption networks or consolidate the monopoly of power. We demand transparent guarantees that allow the Syrian people to access the details of the agreement, the financing mechanisms, and the distribution of revenues, in accordance with the principles of economic justice and institutional accountability.
  3. We call for the involvement of independent national competencies in the project’s evaluation and implementation, free from the logic of quotas or political manipulation, ensuring that reconstruction is a gateway to building a modern civil state, not an extension of authoritarian systems.
  4. We believe that infrastructure rehabilitation must be part of a comprehensive national vision for political transition, not merely isolated technical measures. We emphasize that any sustainable economic development cannot be achieved without genuine political reform that places the Syrian people at the heart of the equation.
  5. We call on national and civil forces to closely monitor this issue and work to formulate a constructive critical discourse that balances the need for development with the imperative of preserving popular sovereignty and transitional justice.
